I disagree with that statement.
As a defender who primarily plays Articuno, Blastoise, and Ho Oh....
Blastoise is super squishy like an attker until I get surf at level 7 and he needs it asap to be an effective defender/tank. Don't worry, I still lane and try to protect our purple squishies as I level up.
Articuno needs level 5 asap and then the Unite move is crucial for either dealing massive dmg to oranges in a wide range or (my favorite) freezing our goal zones which gives us that extra bit of time to get back to a targeted goal.
Similar thing with Ho Oh.
In ranked especially, Every Pokemon needs to level up to be an effective team or else, the defender keeps throwing points at the opposing teams feet by valiantly trying to defend while three levels behind the oranges and making the tank play catch-up is not a good idea, unless you want purple goals busted and squishy attkers and/or speedsters squished.
And tbh, I don't play enough supporters, but I know people who do, and yes, supporters need to level up asap to be effective.
In conclusion.... we ALLL need to level up.
I'm sorry if we don't see eye to eye on that.

(I've done that too, but like you said, with the in game move path selections now gone.... it makes it more..... difficult)

To me leveling seems really important, do you usually need to reach level 15 to secure a win?

U get the + moves at a lower level as a supporter than an attacker or such. That's all.
