As an attacker u usually want to be at least level 14 or somthing to have all your plus moves unlocked, but higher levels are always better. Defenders and Supporters get their plus moves earlier like at 13 or 12. It varies between pokemon. More levels are good, but not essential.

Plus, I'm not sure if this applies to later game, but if u r standing next to a peice.of farm and an ally defeats it, u still get xp. I cant remember if that only applies to the lane farm or all farm, or just defenders and supporters.

No you don't. Each Pokemon has certain levels where the get a power/dmg dealt/buff etc. boost. And the higher your level the more effective you are.
Some rely on stacks for attacks (like Latios draco meteor & Latias), damage dealt, hp etc.... also the held items you choose for each of your pokemon alao effects if you need stacks as well. The sooner you get those stacks, the better you are and the better your advantage over oranges. (Not apples, lol, jk)
However, you can still win before reaching level 15 and we do it a lot.

We live on a hobby farmish, gotta get hay for the horses and sheep. That's mostly why I am on the forums at random times because Im in between chores or like now, in the truck as we drive home.
