What’s something you didn’t understand at first in Pokémon?
Some parts of Pokémon don’t fully click right away. But once they do, they can completely change how you approach the game. What’s something you didn’t understand at first in Pokémon, but now makes sense?

Speaking of the TCG clients, that’s an easy one.
In the beginning, I couldn't understand why we have avatars completely unrelated to the Pokemon franchise and not even the art style of them matches... but then…
Wait, it still doesn't make sense now 😆

How important it is to mash A while catching a Pokemon to increase the odds of catching it… Please work…

I started playing Pokemon in Gen 1
I was 14-15 years old at the time, rocking out to "Gotta catch em all" by Jason Paige while playing my gameboy. You think I did any actual training? Working on stats? Min-maxing effort values?
Nope.
My 14 year old self went: "Rare candy gives an instant level up?! Heck yeah!"
Nowadays I pay more attention to stats, but back then? I never understood stat levels and never gave them the time of day or space in my mind

Stats for sure. When I just started, I really paid no attention to them. Now, I always make sure that I'm using a Pokémon for a role that it fits into stat-wise. While I don't really focus on EVs and Nature in a playthrough team, they're a really high priority when I'm training a Pokémon for battling.
I think I got a bit more into competitive battling after beating Scarlet. Now, I think I've fully trained at least a couple dozen Pokémon. For whatever reason, I tend to avoid using vitamins and candies, preferring to stick with power items and defeating Chansey after Chansey.

Pokémon Blue's Celadon City Trainer Tips sign about GUARD SPEC confused me on what SPECIAL attacks were.
Signpost 2: TRAINER TIPS
GUARD SPEC. protects POKEMON against SPECIAL attacks such as fire
and water! Get your items at CELADON DEPT. STORE!
Besides the fact that this is not what Guard Spec actually does, I thought that Special attacks were literally named, like, Fire and Water, instead of all Fire/Water attacks using the SPECIAL stat.
I didn't figure out the details of how the battle mechanics worked until Earl's Academy in Pokémon Stadium 2.1 -
It's hard thinking back almost three decades ago to when I first played, but I suppose battle items that rose stats, and stat boosting moves in general. Why would you take a turn off doing damage? It didn't help that many of them didn't work or did the opposite of what they were supposed to because gen 1.
But I think one of my friends takes the cake. He didn't realise that the doormat in interior spaces signified an entrance or exit, so he spent an hour trapped in his house interacting with everything, then quit the game.
