Oh man! You did miss out.
Flying pumpkins was intense fun!! 😁😎🎃
So many good battles. Wins & losses but generally reals in every match I played. (And I played quite a bit, lol).
Keeping fingers crossed they do one again... 🤞😬🤞
However I'm not sure if they will because last year they did pumpkins first in Oct, then Eevee festival in Nov, then snowmen/shivre city in Dec..…..
Oh, I want snowman stadium back too!😃 ⛄☃️

The thing about those videos is that they tend to teach bad habits. Yea scoring is important but it's **when** you score that actually matters because destroying goals or waypoints as I like to call them too early can give the opposing team an advantage that will help them overtake your team. TLDR: Scoring early is great but it's not how you start, it's how you finish and the game is generally decided in the final 5 minutes(if not 3 minutes) with Groudon/Kyogre/Rayquaza or whomever spawns in the middle and whomever controls the top and bottom goals(id argue bottom is more important but I may be ignorant and/or biased).
For me, and for any beginner that would start, it's learning all the nuances like items, badges and other quirks(knowing when to use Unite moves or Ultimates) but I think the most important is simply learning how to evolve fast along with learning your role within a team. If you're a Defender to try and be on point but not so far ahead that you get ganked because your teammate(s) was too far behind or didn't bother to give you any support despite you doing your job by tanking and serving opportunities on a silver platter.
The other thing is not having toxic teammates who take the game way too seriously. Objective is to have fun, not be so serious that if a human makes a mistake that we go and become the worse part of ourselves for the world to see because online games give us a sense of anonymity(if it didn't I assure you that bleep would stop).
IF I was to start playing, I'd probably main Alolan Ninetales, Clefable and Lapras(I have a thing for Ice and Fairy types). Vaporeon and Sylveon are honorable mentions because who doesn't like Eevolutions. Seem to recall Jolteon and Flareon being added but they were seasonal additions I suspect.

As for ranked ....
Yeah. I get what you're saying. Not to mention people be getting salty on your own randomly matched teams. 😕
Regardless.... I keep coming back for more. 😎
I'm determined.
Someday I'll either make it to where I want to be or I'll get burnt out of it all.
The key is to have fun and still play quicks and casuals FOR FUN 😁. (oh and never turn your mic on. Lol.)

Ummmm I differ in viewpoints on some of your strategies, but that's the cool thing about Unite. We can have different strategies yet still win.
In fact, with different strategies it keeps the game interesting and evolving. If we are all cookie cutters of each other then the game just becomes a "who can level up the fastest" race... which already happens to a big extent because leveled up Pokemon have an advantage yet one needs to incorporate other strategies while leveling up. LOL, the people who just go off to farm and leave an Articuno alone in lane to defend drive me nuts, because Articuno hinders and needs to work with another teammate or all it does is stall not necessarily KO the three oranges swamping the goal. Lol.
I'm actually glad they aren't telling you exactly how to play. One must learn the basics then strategize for themselves and/or with a team, even if your team is randomly matched, thus the preset ingame chats/icons.
There is a learning curve and there will be struggles.
I don't want us all to be "meta". Play the way you want to play. If it doesn't work, you'll figure it out as matches go.
As for scoring... If you're stacking, you need to score asap and as much as possible in order to be at full attk early game. The earlier you level up and the higher your attk versus the opposing side, the more you can squish them and keep them from leveling up thus increasing your advantage. Attacking wilds, participating in battles against oranges, getting objectives and scoring all give you a boost in your level up.
Ask most masters... They'd rather be on a team that obliterates the opposing team early game, thus keeping the gap between their levels huge and making it more likely that the opposing team surrenders or you one-shot KO them at Kyogre thus almost ensuring your victory.
Now, that isn't to say a team that's lagging in points, amount of goals left and are at lower levels can't win. They can, especially if it's a Kyogre match (the buff is crazy good if you get it). But it's a challenge and not as likely to win.
The last two minutes do matter. Massive battles occur then. Or a team sneaks off to double point score. It all depends on your teams strategy. Early game also matters, that sets the tone and who gets leveled up first.
Remember, goal zones also provide a safe harbor for the team it belongs to. You can gradually heal on it. By eliminating them evenly (top and bottom) you are shrinking the opposing teams area. The flux zones decrease with each destroyed goal too.
I've seen it in ranked. I've seen it in tournaments.
I guess the short of it all is people need to play and learn what works best for themselves and their friends or random teams. Be flexible and try new things.

Sorry about my ramble. I could talk for days about unite, lol. 😅
Actually, I'm considering deleting most of my comment.... I don't want to give away all our secrets.

Eh my point on scoring had more to do with giving the opponents more XP to farm but if you have an item that gets stronger with scoring, by all means dunk that energy. Also yeah work as a team is generally preferred than being a lone wolf. I'd allow it if you were playing a Speedster and doing Jungle, but if you opt to Defender or Support, you should be doing your job as a team.
