Massive Exp. Share Nerf
It used to be that Defenders & Supporters could use Experience Share Helmet (ESH) to help lane partners level up faster and to be able to level up faster themselves to a much lesser degree if they were proximate, or gave last hits, to lane partners. But now all it does is give the holder a bit of extra experience if they are DOING NOTHING.
I am thinking that ESH is now no longer a core Held Item for Defenders because of the huge nerf in the recent update.
They recently made the update that if you attack farm alone, you get 100% exp, but if you & your lane partner) both attack the same farm, you get more than 100% each, no matter who gets the last hit. I’ve been keeping an eye on it and noticed that when attacking farm together, even if I give them last hit for 2 out of the 3 Bunnelby, we level at the same rate, so I stopped using ESH. It’s nice because I can use an extra item now for shielding, etc, but it seems to now be a worthless item for most defenders with any kind of secure (I use SlowBro, who has excellent secure). Are they trying to make ESH helpful for only those Supporters, such as Comfey & Clefable, who don’t farm much, if at all, and have no secure?
I posit that they are trying to:
A) encourage lane partners to attack the same farm and stop in-fighting and rage quitting when our lane partner “steals” the farm;
B) trying to balance the game to not give advantage to lanes that have super-tanky defenders coupled w carries.
Thoughts? Am I alone in noticing this?

See my post about the positive things we've noticed in unite since the major update. I agree with you and per the patch notes, they agree with you too. It's a fix I like and HAVE noticed the drop in bickering amongst teammates. Definitely a positive in my book, for all roles who travel the same path. (I like having the third slot available for a diff item too).

I absolutely love the change to collaborating on farm. Very happy with the nudge they’ve now built in that pushes ppl toward being team players. Very happy about that, especially as a defender main. Even with ESH, I found myself often plateauing at lvl 11 and struggling to level up because my teammates didn’t know how ESH worked.
I also love not having to give up a slot to ESH anymore. It’s a very selfless item for a Defender like SlowBro. The commenter above said that ESH made defenders too strong, but that was not my experience most of the time. It helps make our lane-partner-carries stronger, but we sacrifice quite a bit of sustain to hold that teammate-boosting item. Also, with SlowBro at least, my excellent early-game secure had to go largely unused so as not to accidentally grab that last hit. Whenever I used it as a first attack on farm, my lane partners would misunderstand and leave me to solo the next bunny, which meant we were leveling evenly and ESH was nerfed. I’m relieved to be done with ESH (altho I still use it sometimes when I have to SoloQ and a teammate does something ridiculous like try to lane with Gengar, Greninja, Gardevoir, etc).
I feel like it definitely makes Supporters (especially those who can’t farm, like Clefable, Comfey, etc), better, but it makes me stronger to NOT use it. Now that I don’t have to carry ESH, it frees up a slot for Tenacity belt (Big Root for most other Defenders) or something else that ensures fantastic sustain/tanking for teammates and protecting goals.

I haven't tried the big root yet, maybe once I earn more tickets and can purchase it I will. LOL, I've used up my accumulated tickets just to level up my held items this season so that my Ho Oh could be a decent tank. I think it helped greatly since match after match I took waaaaay more damage than any other trainer. Then again, one of Ho Oh's moves deflects damage away from teammates within a certain area back onto Ho Oh so having a high HP is critical to surviving and thriving as well as having high defense and special defense. Now, to also be able to have high attack as well would be awesome, but as we know, there is a trade off and we can't have it all.
And just a reminder to those that read this, trainer's with Ho Oh may not have high scores since, how I play at least, I generally defend my teammates at the goal prior to scoring my points. On top of that, when using Ho Oh's unite move, it consumes the aeos energy (potential points) in order to bring back KO'd teammates. If Ho Oh does not hold energy when the Unite move is needed and used, only one KO'd teammate can be brought back.
I digress. Yes, I agree with you @Annimorpheus .
Maybe we'll meet up on the battlefield someday... hopefully as teammates (I also use other Pokemon).

EDIT: There is a typo in my original post. Instead of “…if you & your lane partner) both attack the same farm, you get more than 100% each, no matter who gets the last hit.” it should say “you get more than 100% TOTAL” - not each.
