I'm sorry, Turtwig, Squirtle, and Mudkip (and Snivy), but Fennekin, Litten, Scorbunny, and Cyndaquil make it the better choice. And I guess Tepig is good for the Unova gyms.

(Actually, Fennekin alone would make it a better choice.)

Grass Type = The Best Type. There's Chespin, Turtwig, Bulbasaur, Rowlet, Sprigatito, Grookey, and Chickorita. All are solid starters and have solid final evolutions.

Water. Most of the time I default to picking the Water starter, though I will sometimes pick Grass or Fire if I decide I like the Pokemon species better.
