How do you decide how you like a game?

What do you look at to determine whether you like the game? (unless its just 'I like this one because I do')
Mine would be charm. If the game decently charming, its good. If its very charming, its VERY good. If it has little or no charm, my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

    I just started playing a new game, it's difficult to get into because it's not super intuitive (for me). So I would say 1. Flow 2. Storyline 3. Visually appealing

    My criteria is rather simple. Does it have Vulpix(Kanto or regional form, ideally Alolan because I love Ice). If neither version has my Kitsune Fox, I'm really hesitant to get it. What's the makeup of the Dex and what version has which Pokemon(so I suppose I should add version exclusives but overall the Dex matters). Finally what are the starters and what do they eventually become? I typically find at least one I like but if all three are meh then I'm less inclined to get it.

    For me it's mainly enjoying combat, making sure it's not redundant, and having a good post-game.
