Forums Fantasy: Chapter 3
(Pretty short and honestly not my proudest work. I struggled to throw this together for some reason despite already knowing what events I wanted to happen. Sorry…)
— — —
I nervously watch my surroundings, constantly glancing over my shoulder as I lay down the food I'm buying onto the conveyor belt. The man behind the register tiredly grabs each item and scans them, tossing them (carelessly tossing, I might add) into a bag as he goes. I look behind me for what feels like the hundredth time. My fingers start to twitch violently in my pockets as my nerves begin to make me shakes. I feel a sickening dread in my stomach as I stand here looking suspicious. They're coming for me! I know it! They're—
"Dude, stop freaking out," Chris mutters as he suddenly places a hand on my shoulder, snapping me out of my panicked thoughts. "Nobody knows we ran away so nobody is looking for us. No one suspects a thing. But if you keep acting like this the guards will snatch us up real quick. So calm down and act normal."
I nod along, taking a few deep, calming breaths. He's right. Nobody knows that we're running from Hades. As long as that's a secret, we're safe. My hands still shake slightly, but for the most part I've relaxed.
"Cash or card," the cashier asks with a heavy, exhausted sigh. I slowly give him the cash, still holding on as he tries to take it. As the man tugs on the money again I let go, watching him put it into the register with sadness.
That was the money Chris took from my parents when we left. He told me that because there are two less people to take care of they won't need as much money, so we're fine to take this. Our plan was to use the cash to pay our way onto a boat or plane to escape the region, but when we ran out of food while still far away from any transportation we had to make the tough decision to use it to stock up instead. Now we don't have a clue how we'll get out of here… But Chris is positive we'll figure it all out in time, and I trust in him.
Me and Chris collect our bags of goods and place them in my backpack (much easier than carrying the multiple plastic bags), giving the cashier our thanks on the way out (he responds with an absent minded "Yeh"). As soon as we're on the street a person approaches us to hand us a free flyer with a smile.
"Here in Brickonaw we're having a celebration of our great King Hades," they explain as I take the sheet of paper. It takes everything in me not to show my disgust at the picture of Hades in his signature titanium fused obsidian armor. He's holding his pitch black blade in the air, the red jewel in the hilt seeming to shine brightly despite it being an illustration. He's smiling, wide and proud, with his brown chin length hair blowing majestically in the wind. Around him are the words "Party Like A King!"
"Oh…" I reply, working hard to keep my smile on. "Th-That's great!"
The other person nods their head, genuinely excited. "Right!? Anyways, I was just letting you know in case you would be interested in attending."
I'm not sure what to say, but luckily Chris does. "Thank you so much for the offer but unfortunately we're busy tonight," he states as he grabs me by the wrist and begins to walk away from the human. "Maybe another time."
"Of course! We hold this celebration every other week," they tell us, still smiling. "You're always welcome!"
We nod and continue going. I glance over my shoulder to see that the person has already moved on to a new group of people, who seem very interested in the news. "Every other week," I mutter as I take my wrist back from Chris. "That's ridiculous!"
The brunette nods in agreement but doesn't say anything. I look behind me again, just to be sure they aren't still watching us, and as I look ahead again I see a random dude my age heading right for me! I don't have time to react as he crashes into me, knocking us both to the ground.
"Ah, what the heck," I exclaim as I sit up, holding my gut. He stuck his hands out as we fell and pushed right into my stomach.
"Um…" The guy scrambles to his feet, pushing his long brown hair out his eyes as he looks back in the direction he came. Two soldiers are running towards us and his dark brown eyes widen with horror. He immediately dashes away, shouting "Sorry," over his shoulder.
I'm not focused on him or his reaction, though. My eyes are glued to the two people in shining gold armor barreling towards me! My brain assumes they have discovered my plans and I throw my hands up. "I'm sorry! Please! D-Don't—"
They run right past me.
"Idiot," Chris grumbles as he pulls me back to my feet. "I told you, no one cares about us. But if you keep acting like that, then…"
He keeps talking, lecturing me about needing to chill out and stop worrying if I want to survive. I only half listen, though, watching the guards chase the person that rammed into me. I have an unexplainable draw to him, like the reason he's being hunted is helpful to me.
"Chris, we're following him," I state as I begin to run after the soldiers.
"What!?" Chris exclaims, quickly running after me. "Why?"
"Because my gut says to," I answer, not looking back at him so I don't lose sight of who I'm chasing.
"That's the dumbest reason I've ever heard," my friend shouts. Despite his complaints he continues to follow me.
The male is a few meters ahead of the soldiers, which I am a few feet behind. The man turns a corner, which the guards copy. But as they make their way around they suddenly come to a halt, looking utterly confused. As I catch up, keeping a bit of distance, though, I see why.
The guy is gone! Instead, a man dressed in black and white with a matching top hat is casually walking towards us with a wide, friendly smile. "Why hello there, good officers," he exclaims, removing his hat and giving them a small bow. His gleaming white hair seems to be combed to such perfection that it doesn't move as his head goes down and back up. "What can I do for the two of you?"
"Who are you," one of the guards demand with a growl. The other walks around the area, searching for the person we were after.
"I… am… Zeronis Therin Exzerion The 3rd," the man exclaims, giving another deep bow, hands dramatically out at his sides. He then snaps back up, his smile seeming more casual than before. "But you can just call me Zero for short."
"Where's the boy," the soldier questions with a tone that makes it sound more like a statement. Zero tilts his head and his eyebrows furrow.
"Who," the white haired man inquires.
"The boy," the officer repeats. "Long brown hair, dark brown eyes, kinda buff. He just came around this corner!"
The man in black and white thinks long and hard for a moment before shaking his head. "Sorry, officer, but I have no clue who you're talking about."
The soldier looks ready to yell at Zero but his fellow guard comes back, shaking their head. "Gone," the other says as they return. "No sign of him anywhere."
The two soldiers look at Zero with a strong glare. The man just smiles back at them. After a minute or two the officers sigh and turn around. "If you see a male with that descriptions come down to the central plaza to alert us," one of them says as they leave.
"Will do," Zeronis Therin Exzerion The 3rd replies, giving them a thumbs up. Once they are completely gone he drops the smile and turns around, walking away. He never noticed me and Chris…
"Let's go," I whisper, quietly hurrying behind the white haired man. Chris mutters about how stupid this is but follows along none-the-less. Zero turns into an alley way and I go into after him. As me and friend enter, though, it's empty. "What…?"
Me and the brunette walk deeper into the alley, me looking behind garbage bins, tattered mattresses, blankets, and many other items that were left here to rot. The man is nowhere to be found. "Looks like you've wasted our time," Chris says, obviously irritated. I turn and look at him to reply, but gasp in surprise. Zero is right behind him, and the man does not look happy.
"Look out," I exclaim, but it's too late. Zero grabs Chris, placing his hand over my friend's mouth. Something must have been on it because Chris goes unconscious almost immediately. I begin to back up, but I bump into something. I turn around to find a Meowscarada right behind me. It pulls out a bag of powder and blows it into my face.
I stagger back, coughing uncontrollably. But then my vision blurs and limbs go weak. "Sleep… Powder…?" I ask tiredly. It takes almost no time to kick in, the world going dark as I fall to the ground.

I know why I struggled to write this
I made an outline for this chapter but it was an outline of strictly the plot and purpose of this chapter, not the filler and build up
I hope you still enjoy it, though
Now for the tags…
@UnovanZorua (the one that requested it (hope I didn't disappoint you with it)) @fineasmatei @Shadow_Sylveon @PokeMom244 @Dragonfly102024 @Hey_PIKMIN
I think those were the ones that asked to be tagged, but we have had some newcomers
@BSDuck @Morpekofreako @Munchlax5210
Let me know if you want tagged in future chapters (I've asked in the past, I know, but please answer again (even the people I did tag))
Enjoy!
