What is the WORST mainline Pokémon game?

Yeah I heard of comic relief, how is that working for Jar Jar Binks? Also I never even mentioned Team Yell, horrible. The story makes sense but Sun/Moon did it better, Pokémon should've not reused the same idea with the main villain twice. Also no Pokémon outside of the Regional Dex (with very few exceptions) is a deal breaker (Sun/Moon did not have the National Dex but allowed every Pokémon). Gotta Catch'em All, more like Gotta Catch some of them and perhaps a few more and give up after a certain point.
Also Silver and Barry are the best rivals.0 -
Over the history of the games each generation brought something new. Granted Gold and Silver was like generation 1.5, I feel they tried to do a lot the same. It was the same art, same menu layout, same battles, same Kanto, but the new features it brought came with annoyances. It fixed Missingnos that we thought were going to be a main stay. It brought, hatching, which was not done without a book(Sca/Vio needs a book).
And Gold and Silver didn't seem fleshed out enough for a game as popular as it was because chikorita was so weak, the first gym needed over leveled pokemon or a rock snake, there was no Safari Zone, the bug catching contest was losable on the best catch, finding roaming legendaries for young me meant finding a gimmick, and my main greavard is the new pokéballs not working as they should. These are the main reasons I didn't buy the remake. Though even if they fixed all of them I would not buy another remake of Gold and Silver because my first experience was so grimer. But I don't want to talk about that.
My lowest lows came from games that did the opposite of spark creativity in me. Let me be free in a game. Don't make it so I need both games or a friend. I like mean looking at things I accomplished alone. That took my patience and exploration and knowledge. I want to achieve them again. Because knowledge and curiousity and patience are a culmination of everything my teachers have taught me, rival students have competed with me to learn, and Giovanni's have paid me to do. I see no reason to slowking down now.
Gold and Silver brought one major beneficial thing. More diverse pokemon. The scientist in me loves nature based Pokémon.
The one thing the games did right is making every pokémon you catch seem so bad. But the level curve was so bad. What Pokemon are you excited to catch in the beginning of a new playthrough? We get scuffed Giovanni outside the cave at the end but he shows up for half a second.
Gold and Silver were the second games and a amulet coin grab. I didn't want to say it. It's full of quirky systems that don't seem thought out. This region's pokémon are under statted and different because the strong ones are in the late game. Again the level curve is bad and not made for a working parent at all. But all this just highlights how many bad things can come together for a working game.

You know, yeah, I do miss poké amie. There's another reason I like Galar: camping! And another reason I don't like Legends: Arceus: Everyone's afraid of Pokémon. Like that one lady who was scared of starly. I was literally saying aloud "How are you afraid of starly??? That's like being afraid of pidgeons!"

Yeah, I did get a little defensive there. Sorry. It's just that I went onto a discussion called "What's the worst mainline game?" and the first two on there are my favorites.

I personally loved Team Yell, they were a bit odd when they sat in the streets as the blockade, but they had a funny storyline in Marine. And what did Sun/Moon do particularly better? The bad guy turned into a jellyfish? I'm not saying Sun/Moon had a bad storyline, and it's an opinion in the end which is better. I like both. And I can understand why they had to cut the National Dex. Imagine having to do all those Pokémon: over 800 at the time. I also think the cut makes the regions feel slightly more real. Certain Pokémon don't live here, they live there. Do tigers live in North America? No. I'm not saying I like it, just saying it was fairly necessary to create a less huge game.
And the best rivals is an opinion. I just thought Hop was really funny and he felt fun while still being competitive.

Sun/Moon had a better way of having the evil villain masked by a delusion. Personally I think they cut the national dex because the switch kinda sucks and doesn't like big open games (kinda like why BOTW has the worst artstyle in the series). Also Pokemon from other regions is normal, has been a thing in the series since Gen 2, this isn't like having tigers in North America (which tigers once were in North America, also Zoos exist) this is like having a Shiba Inu in North America. Shiba Inus aren't native here but they are popular here, also Legends Arceus literally had three starters from other regions (and said they were from other regions) and the Hisuian Pokedex had Pokemon that aren't native to Sinnoh. What next, a Goodra doesn't belong in Sinnoh even though they were historically there, come on you gotta have a better argument than that.

everything past black and white is kinda garbage, but the worst is scarlet and violet by far, for reasons that everyone has already said, so I wont bother listing all the things wrong with those games

Funny enough Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon was my least favorite until Sword/Shield came out.
