What is the WORST mainline Pokémon game?

I got to go with X and Y, there's just so much wrong with this game. terrible story, terrible gameplay, terrible everything. not including the remakes and Legends Arceus even though they are mainline because there's not enough room on the poll (also let's get real those are basically semi-mainline, only the first games of each generation and B2/W2 are considered main line by 100% of people) also, please do not factor in the expansions when judging SW/SH and S/V, as those are not a part of the base game.

My team may be underleveled but battling the Elite Four in Y is pain (still haven't), but I thought the game was fun and the storyline was good. Surprisingly, I do not see anything negative in any of the Pokémon games. I like them all!

I would argue Sword/Shield is the worst title, with Scarlet/Violet as second place. The graphics sucked, looked like a 3DS game that wasn't well optimized for the switch with a good-ish story but horrible post game content, like Swordbert and Shieldbert sucked. Also Sword/Shield was the first title to normalize DLC's in the mainline games, allowing them to have garbage post game content and for the people to remember the DLC's as the post game content instead. That is not how it works but it tricks people. Scarlet/Violet had similar issues but a better story (post game content? Never heard of it) but it was a more enjoyable game to play, plus it had the Halo 2 experience with the bugs and glitches (which oddly enough during my playthrough I barely encountered any of them despite playing on launch).

C'mon, everyone hates two of my favorite games, mostly for the reason I love them? That stinks. I love Kalos's storyline, it genuinely touched me, and Galar's Swordbert and Shieldbert were hilarious. Ever heard of comic relief? Plus, everyone always complains Galar's story makes no sense. It made perfect sense. In fact, the only reason I'd rank S/V higher than Sword/Shield is characters, and still none of them beats my favorite rival, Hop. But, alright, I had my little rage, and to each their own.
To answer the question, I have to say legends: arceus. It's storyline felt too much like they worshipped the Pokémon, which was a little bit messed up. Being attacked by Pokémon was odd, especially since some Pokémon that attacked felt like they shouldn't have (looking at you, Paras), it added like NO new Pokémon, and the ones it did add were evos. 'Blacking out' felt dumb, and even though the open world was cool, I just going to go to Galar's wild area, you know. It's got more Pokémon there anyway. I can't think of pretty much any reasons it beats any game.

I'm one of the only few people who thinks Bergmite kinda looks like it could be a pet!

I could definitely see someone in Northern Kalos sticking a leash around their Bergmite and walking it around Snowbelle. 😅

The worst mainline game is probably scarlet and violet it takes away classic features that have been through most of the mainline games like daycare's, and fishing. None of the towns or routes are that rememberable and feel empty with nothing to do since they don't let you go inside buildings. You don't know how much you miss a feature until its gone, for example I do in fact miss mandatory trainer battles especially when a load of grunts challenge you, I miss the small and fun minigames of poke amie and poke pelego I miss Pokestar studios from B&W, I miss contest from ORAS, I miss the extra fun side content when you needed a break from the games, I miss the wacky fun battle styles (rotation, triple, inverse, royale). Something that I also don't like about scarlet and violet is the level curve there really isn't much of a challenge no matter what team that you decide to use even in X&Y there is way more difficulty if you decide to box mega Lucario I remember losing to Grant and almost losing to Wulfric during my first playthough when my team was Sylveon, Lapras, Meowstic, Chesnaught, Garchomp, and Aurorus. I missed actually getting to interact with my pokemon in ultra moon and pokemon X I missed giving them pets feeding them cleaning them and playing with them it made the pokemon on your team feel way more close to you then camp or especially picnic. I miss when there were challenging battles cause it made pokemon feel less like tools and more like companions. I miss evil organizations that were a threat to the world which when you stopped them it made you feel like you saved the world like stopping Lysandre and Ghetsis. I liked when the villain actually felt evil and wasn't just some delinquents who dropped out of school cause they were bullied. I liked when we knew stories of more characters in the game rather than just one or two. I missed when we could name our rivals and rebattle npc's with stronger teams with vs seeker. Out of the 102 base game paldean pokemon 18 of them are just reginal variants taking up a dex spot (paradoxs, and convergents) and 1 new evolution line has two pokemon that are nearly identical except one small heart on one of them making it feel like we actually have 85 new pokemon in that dex. Also a lot of the paldeans pokemon designs i'm not the biggest fan of to be honest like Rabsca's line, Flittle's line, Lechonk's line, Tarountula's line, Bramblin's line, and Flamigo to name a few. I miss customization options where i feel like I'm actually choosing my outfit, I miss secret bases which i can put somewhere isolated and no one would know. I miss shiny resetting hunts on legendaries and starters since they shiny lock everything now. I miss HM puzzles and ice puzzles, I miss reusuable TM's, I miss the victory road gauntlet, and talking to random NPC's to see what was going on. I miss not knowing what I was going to encounter in the grass, and the joy of encountering a pokemon to find a shiny pokemon. I missed when games had more than 1 mythical, and when I could actually go inside the stores and pokemon centers. I miss bikes and unique looking gym building both the inside of them and out.
To sum it up I don't like scarlet and violet because of the lack of features it has compared to the other games making it feel barren and bland. Personally I would put it in low C tier

It's perfectly okay to enjoy these games even if they are unpopular or widely criticised. I don't think anyone is trying to take your fun away.
But if everyone else is criticising them and citing the same issues, it might be worth considering that there might be genuine flaws and things that could be done better, and may well have already been done better in the series.

Well I quoted my dad once,
"Putting an ice cube on a leash and, you know, walking around"

Out of the games I’ve played, I have to say Let’s Go. Even though it was my first ever Pokemon game, and I love it for that, there’s just so many wonderful and interesting stories to…discover in Pokemon!
