What are your favourite non Pokémon games?

I have also heard FFXIII was hated on but I just went and played it regardless of the criticism and it turned out to be a great game. I found that the gameplay was quite good, being somewhat strategic compared to the previous entries of "grind till you drop" (despite Pokemon doing that as well, also I was able to beat Sephiroth in one hit with knights of the round table). The sequel was also very good and had quite a unique party system (in a good way) but the ending sucked and the third game sucked too. Nostalgia may play a role in this change of heart for FFXIII but personally I think the reason people are looking back at it and saying "wow its good" is because the newer entries are being treated like FFXIII was. To be honest I haven't really heard much about that phenomenon I am mostly guessing.

Well at the end of the day you like what you like. I wouldn't want to take that away from you. There is nothing wrong with liking things that are unpopular, any more than there is in disliking popular things. I was simply curious about the recent emergence of FFXIII fans. Where did they all come from?

I love turn based combat, which is why Pokémon, in spite of all its problems, still works for me while newer FF games have not resonated in the same way. I was also not a childhood fan of the series as I was with Pokémon. As I said, I didn't get to play it until the PS2 era.

There is some truth to what you say about people going back and re-evaluating media after later entries have been released. But I don't think it is as simple as people hating the newest entry just because it is the newest entry.

People say the same thing about the Pokémon series. We both know it's more nuanced than that.

I heard of the card thing they are doing, I see ads of it every now and then. I don't really play that, just Pokemon TCG. I cannot afford to get into a new card game.

I personally think it is very cool and am very hyped for it. But Magic has been in a bad spot for years and these collaboration sets are a desperation play. Magic was already the most expensive card game, and the licencing fees for Final Fantasy, Marvel, Doctor Who and Spongebob aren't helping. I loved MTG for many years, but I cannot recommend it to new players, sadly.

Sonic Forces, Minecraft, and recently I'm getting into Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Skylanders SWAP Force. But Pokémon Sword remains No. 1 ~
