Pokemon hot takes

Not a hot take. I like the 3d games, but the 2d ones and their sprite work is running circles around the 3d models of today.

That isn't considered a hot take anymore? That's great if true. The popular wisdom in gaming seems to be "more 3D = more better".

Certain areas of SwSh look very good in 3D. And I think it is the most appealing era of Pokémon's human character design. SV was a step backwards in that regard.
But a lot of the 3D graphics in game look terrible and run worse.
I am not saying 3D games cannot be done well. I am saying Game Freak cannot do them well. At least, not with the resources and time frames to which management currently hold them.
The sprites and visual design of Pokémon's Game Boy era are iconic in gaming. Gen 3 and 4 have their fans, and I think they look better aesthetically than their 3D offerings, especially BDSP. And gen 5 was the absolute peak of Pokémon's sprite design. The sprites were so colourful and full of life, literally bouncing around the screen.
Seeing the dull, flatly coloured, virtually motionless 3D models of the XY era and beyond was heartbreaking. It was like seeing the family dog after a lobotomy.

Imagine if they went with the HD-2D style in dragon quest.

That is possibly the best we can hope for. I am not overly keen on that style either.

Hot take: Charmander is the worst gen 1 starter

I would argue that it is Venusaur, but the gen 1 starters aren't that bad to be honest. Not as bad as the worst starter of all time: Meganium.
