Killing a Fossil counts as a Pokemon?

Hi, why does killing a fossil count as a Pokemon when Marshadow uses the Revenge ability? It's not really a pokemon is it?

Is it like say a Claw Fossil, which if you killed would mean that you 1. Shatter the rock and 2. Make it so resurrecting it would be impossible.

Are you speaking from a flavour perspective?
Because from a game balance perspective, it makes sense that taking out a fossil counts as a Pokémon.
Fossils used to be considered strictly items in the TCG, but it was open to abuse.

I think base form fossil Pokémon cards say they evolve from the fossil they came from, I only know this from Anorith's cards.

I agree I was confused by this. I wish you didn't take a point off of it so that it could be a decoy.
