Halo 5 is a very specific comparison. What did you mean by that?

The anticlimactic ending, like the feeling after getting to the ending wanting to finish the story and you don't get that satisfaction (which was weird cause Legends Arceus has post game resolving it with Volo but it wasnt treated as the games proper ending).

Halo 5 had bigger problems than its ending.

But I do agree that the pacing of PLA is strange. The plot as a whole was strange, with very little in the way of actual conflict.

It felt like the sisters pursuing you and being thrown out of the village were beats thrown in as padding and the need for more human drama in a story where that wasn't the focus.

Volo feels similar, but his fight is a better "true end" to the game than the one with Dialga or Palkia. But most players probably see the credits roll and think, "guess I'm done".

i would say spinoffs should count as part of their generation in terms of time/console tbh

also i've said and will say it but i think gen 2 was the best and peak innovation relative for its time

Generation 2 is underrated in the fandom, I think. It was developed before gen 1 released in the west and became a global sensation, so I believe it was intended to be the ultimate Pokémon game. A send off to this niché little series before they moved on to something else. So they put a lot of love and features into it.

    But then Pokémania hit.

Meanwhile, by the time we actually got Gold and Silver, Pokémania was still going strong but starting to wane. The fans of the original game begsn to age out and move on to other things (many of them came back years later) and then gen 3 gained a whole new generation of fans as their first Pokémon game.

Gen 2 was awkwardly cut off from the franchise, incompatible with the new gen 3 and lacking the massive cultural impact, popularity and nostalgia gen 1 had (though it was still popular in its own right), so it became this awkward middle child of the franchise.

HGSS essentially meant the entire gen was replaced and absorbed into gen 4 (unlike gen 1 and FRLG where the differences in style and gameplay are pronounced enough to be their own things), coupled with the internal clock battery drain erasing gen 2 saves faster than gen 1, rendered GSC largely inaccessible and undesirable compared to its DS counterparts.

It is a shame. I have very fond memories of gen 2. HGSS are the best way to experience the games (and some of the best in the series) in my opinion, but I do occasionally go back and do a playthrough of Crystal from time to time just to experience that vibe once again.

    Other (Legends, Ranger, Mystery Dungeon)

I said this in a different thread, but I think the spin-off games are better than the main series by a long-shot. Especially Mystery Dungeon, Pokken, and the Pinball games.
