How to identify a larper

Well said. Could have shortened it to just this though.

The original origin of the term was Live Action Role Play, but as with many terms and concepts on the internet, it evolved and took on a completely different meaning.
While in the past LARPers were to RPG fans what RPG fans were to normies, the word itself didn't have negative connotations, even if the practice did. It was a literal description of what they were doing.
Eventually people came to refer to fake fans as larpers (i.e. people pretending to play the role of a fan), and once that term hit the mainstream, it was totally divorced from the original concept.
That is what I assume the OP was alluding to with their initial question. Because if they were talking about actual LARPers, the obvious answer is to walk up to them and ask, "hey, are you into LARPing?"

Yeah. Back in the days when things were simple and called 'playing around'. Now you're not allowed to do that unless you are among the weirdos. Which I am thankfully

Sounds about right.

After how @TheJeffers explained it, I'm guessing it's not "How to Identify Live Action Role Players" but the new slang version of the word. Maybe.
I know 😃 let's ask Nate!
@Nate72Salty , please clarify your original question and let us all know which version of the word larper you were using. Thanks!

Well I would say the fake fan term is also synonymous with tourist, not invested but still there to reap the benefits and forcing the series to be tourist friendly.
