What kind of trainer would you be known as?

If you're good with D6(aka 6-sided dice), then you'll be good with D8, D10, D12(the staple in Daggerheart with Duality Dice or 2D12, aka two of them) and D20(staple in D&D with Nat20(crit success) or Nat1(crit failure)). The thing with Whil is that his luck is so bad, he rolls low all the time on a D20. Odds on getting a 1 on a D6 is 1/6(16.67%). That same result on a D20 is 1/20 or 5%. Yet for Whil, it's more like 80-90%.
That's why he has that reputation and why Matt Mercer reacts the way he does at the beginning.
Also if Guardian is your class, I highly recommend a Pokemon with Battle Armor. It permits you to tank damage at a much higher clip because the enemy can roll Nat20(aka Crit) and you'll laugh at it and treat it like it's a normal attack. Crits would normally be Severe to everyone else but to you it'd be Major(or less), resulting in no HP loss. Armor slots being the limiting factor in damage mitigation but so long as you got Hope(a character resource), you can clear/restore Armor slots to tank more damage via a Class ability.
Basically when it comes to Tanking, you will want a Bard for Rally Die and a Seraph for Prayer Die to help you clear Stress and generate Hope respectively. If properly supported by teammates, a Guardian can tank just about anything. It's not like the Guardian can't fight either. With access to Blade, it can fight with weapons like the Warrior class. Granted Guardian is Defense while Warrior is all about Offense.
Ack got me rambling.

Stalwart can mitigate it further if it's Physical damage. They also have higher damage thresholds, which increases likelihood that it will be Major as opposed to Severe. With Battle Armor Pokemon ability you don't have to worry about Crits(which with I Am Your Shield can be applied to Allies if you tank their damage).
