A number of these games were made by other studios, so it is somewhat dependent on whether they are willing to work on them, or if the team that made the older installments even still exists.
I do wish Pokémon would better utilise its spin-offs and side series to fill its release schedule. If the powers that be insist on yearly (or even more frequent) releases, why not levy these other series to have other teams work on Pokémon games while Gamefreak develop the next main series games?
It would add more variety to the franchise and the extra time would hopefully prevent the main series games being so rushed and buggy.
On a side note, I hope that Gamefreak do not touch my beloved gen 5 until they have gone through some kind of reform. In their current state I fear they would only ruin it, be it a remake or sequel.
