It's been a few months since Z-A and my thoughts have changed
When I first finished Z-A I made a post that explained how I felt
I went through every Z-A post and comment, every Z-A post and comment I made, and even all of my posts
They removed it for some reason
I don't know why they did but I was going to put my new review in the comments of it but looks like I'll have to make a new post for it
There will be Spoilers in here so don't read if you don't want any

The game was decent at best
The story was pretty basic and simple and extremely short
What gave the game length was the repetitive Royales and Rouge Megas, which were always the same thing practically
They tried to add more with pointless side quests, which is just disappointing and gets boring quick
While there were some side quests that I enjoyed or found interesting, there wasn't that many and none of them had a real point
I think the side quests would have been better if they added something to the plot or story
All of the characters were very basic with no depth
The best built character was the rival, and even they were very surface level with little growth
Another issue I have is I expected a lot more Megas
They added barely anything!
Plus, they started doing Mega Zs only to give just three Pokémon the privilege of having a Z?
Pretty disappointing
And the thing is, if it weren't for the DLC I never would have realized this
The DLC is what made me done with the game because I was literally doing practically the same thing I was in the main game
I still haven't finished the DLC because it was boring and tedious
Honestly, the game was probably only worth thirty dollars and the DLC five at best
Something else that annoys me is the amount of pointless plot twists there were
Terragon is Canari's hologram!
Canari is an grown child with rage issues!
Ivor isn't a weirdo scammer! (Maybe that one was just me that thought that)
L is Lysander and good!
Lebanne is a psycho!
Corbeau is actually a good guy! (The biggest disappointment of them all and not even pulled off properly!)
It goes on and on and none of them were needed!
They were just throwing in surprises for the sake of doing it!
Also, no post game but instead doing the same thing you did the entire game 15 more times!
LIKE WHAT!?
And let's not forget the final battle between tower Ange and Zygarde+me
That was one big disappointment
The only good things that came from the game was the art style and some of the new Megas
I hear a lot of people talk trash about the character designs and graphics, but I thought they were some of the best I've seen ever
And then the Megas…
I'd say they are 50/50 between good and bad ones, but the ones that were good are incredible!
All in all, I was too caught up in the high of a new game to realize how bad it was

But that's just my opinion
What are y'all's thoughts on the game now that it has been a while?

I explained the whole thought process in "Legends Z-A as I play!"
The moment I met him
You see, his wish was for the barriers to down and let Pokemon run free
But people would be scared because they aren't strong enough to defend themselves
Oh, but lucky for them, Ivor has a training dojo where they can get stronger and protect themselves from the Pokemon he released!
It's simple
He frees Pokemon, people need to be stronger, they go to him, he gets more money for training people

It is a rip off and a far cry from previous entries (except switch entries).

To be fair with Zs, only three Pokemon have access to X and Y Mega Evolution too.

I will say I feel like my thoughts on Z-A were mixed. On one hand it felt like a grind sometimes, but on the other hand it had some pretty good elements.
Suppose I'll start with the good news- the battle system was actually much better than it could've been, I was kind of dreading it but it still felt like a Pokemon battle and was pretty fun. Then the fact that we were only in Lumiose I thought would be boring, but to be honest it was kind of grounding because we had one, concrete 'home' to return to every time. That and I've never REALLY gotten to explore a big city before irl and so even running through streets looking around felt cool to me. Third, characters. I feel like the characters became way more than I'd expected right in front of me. Mostly Taunie. At first she already grew on me a lot more than I expected, because she was so… funny and honestly just felt like so much energy (and still drinks coffee, who lets this girl have coffee?!), and she was nice as well. But then it got kind of interesting when she started getting obviously JEALOUS of the player. I think I've said this before, but as the game progresses she starts stressing more and more "I'm the leader of team MZ" or "Hey, I'm going up ranks too". The first time I noticed was when someone mentioned 'strongest mega evolution user' and Lida defaulted to saying it was me- only for Taunie to get this look on her face and ask why Lida was so sure it was me, and why not her. Every time we would be bouncing from place to place to give backup she'd ask if I thought I could handle it. Then at the end she actually fought us over Floette, and got to use Floette anyway- which was something that was actually shocking to me, the Legendary always goes to the player, right, but no, and I liked it better this way. She got her moment, she recorded it, and before it all went nutso she made one last snarky comment- "We still haven't filmed that ad!" That and AZ. AZ was… honestly kind of like a grandpa I'd want to talk to. But he was so old, and when he finally saw his other machine destroyed… by another band of kids… he finally got to pass away. It was jarring for me to see AZ's grave, but it was… really what was needed. Then the whole cast in general- I heard some people complain everyone is too nice and it's ridiculous that everyone would be so kind. Most of the people end up being somewhat kind to the player, I suppose, but don't get along with others. Canari still hates Ivor and generally dislikes most people. Emma got angry with people, especially Ivor. Corbeau acts pessimistic with an overall good heart, but you can't deny he's still not exactly the greatest guy, and Lida continues not to trust him. I don't think ANYONE trusts Jacinthe, honestly. Corbeau and Canari actually feel a little more like a respect for the player than a friendship. Overall I liked a lot of stuff about the game.
And now I'll get to the criticism. It was a GRIND. SO MUCH GRIND. Gather aaall these points before you can do this promotion battle. It would take me forever to gather all those points. And the Rouge Megas… I loved the concept, but… the battles would get tedious and your 'ally' did basically nothing but provide emotional support. Plus, 90% you would be the one getting clocked and going unconscious. Then moving on to the plot… I felt like there were intentions to go some pretty cool places. Maybe Zygarde is here because of the Wild Zones disrupting the ecosystem. The whole thing about is having wild Pokemon live with us in our city really okay? Everyone had a different opinion. But I feel like at the end most of those got dropped and just left hanging. After beating the game all you can do is side quests it feels like, besides Mega Dimension. The Z-A Infinite Royale is just boring. L felt like… okay, I think Nintendo should've left Lysandre dead. He brought some interesting ideas to the table but felt unfinished. The only time I liked his existence was when he lamented over AZ's death. I could go on in more detail about these things but don't feel like it.1 -

Honestly, I liked the rival, and the scene where they got Floette was one I liked, but as we can tell from how controversial it is and how many people felt betrayed after being promised Floette, the execution was awkward, even if them getting Floette was the option that made the most sense. Them being given Jett's job in the post-game was strange, though. They are not qualified for that job at all. Don't pick an unqualified person and train them for it just because they're related to you, just pick someone who actually has the qualifications. Which I assume there has to be a few of already in the company, right?

Back on the topic of the rest of the game, though, it was too bloated with grind. I did have fun playing it, I completed the base game's Pokédex and got a team of trained Lv. 100s and multiple shinies. However, the base game's post-game was partially locked behind ridiculous amounts of grind and partially locked behind half the price of a full game. If I want the same amount of post-game with almost no grind, I can replay SwSh anytime. Oh, yeah, remember back when the games were replayable? When the tutorials would never go beyond half an hour and you didn't feel like your eyebags were holding weights and trying to convince your eyelids to copy them every time you had to go through the tutorial? They introduced the game just fine in that amount of time and you actually felt like you were making progress during them. I miss when my big complaints were them saying undefeatable champion every two seconds, that plot twist makes no sense can we have full stories again, and why can't I use all the Pokémon I was allowed to use in the game before the one before this one. Also people made fun of a tree that looked low-quality.
Now we have games with even more plot twists on top of plot twists. Some of them were fun (I liked Holo-Canari being her grandpa supporting her, Canari being more distinct from Iono and "saying a bunch of symbols" after losing because she's a gamer, Lebanne being Lebanne and not a characterless NPC) and others of various levels of quality in execution felt like they were there just because they wanted to subvert expectations (Corbeau is "good" actually! Quasartico do literally nothing but tell you where Rogue Megas are! AZ just had a very long lifespan! The final boss isn't a Pokémon or person! Ingo is back and Emmet is also there, but we're not touching on that topic in any way at all!).
As for characters, the rival was my favourite because I already liked them before the Ange arc and I enjoyed it. I liked Lebanne and I feel bad for her. I also liked Jacinthe because she had the best design in the game with the game's best battle theme and had a fun personality and was a horrible person. Emma is obviously still one of my favourite characters in the series and I love her but wish we had more about her in this game. At least her design is one of the coolest in all of Pokémon.
Now, back to the story, but with a different topic. The game feels unfinished. It constantly brings up possible conflicts, like the mayor not knowing what he's doing and constantly approving Wild zones before they can finish studying the previous ones, giving Mable a lot of work in a high-stakes situation. And Wild zones in general. We can find a lot of NPCs complaining about them and struggling with them, but the topic is never touched on in a relevant way. There's one in a cemetry. They open up often until the tower is taken care of and they almost always are somewhere people hang out often, like parks, or include buildings. Which might include people's homes. And cafés are sometimes caught up in them. But this is never brought up by anyone. Plus, the technology used by them can be used by rich people like Jacinthe in ways they shouldn't be, but it isn't really acknowledged in-game in a relevant way. And there's the Battle zones, which definitely include people's homes given how many buildings we can go on top of, can put non-trainers in danger if they're outside at night, and have trapped one person in a mall overnight by blocking it away so trainers don't enter and in the process making it so no one can exit either. But that one person is the closest we get to anything on the Battle zones, though there might be a nameless NPCs I forgot who say some things because it's always the nameless NPCs and never anything important.
And sure, we can't do much about bad things in real life, but this is a video game series where we live in a near-utopian world with magic animals who help us with literally everything and you always play as the best trainer ever that everyone loves that no one could ever beat and people and Pokémon are best friends and it ends badly when they're seperated (see: all the Pokémon in Pokopia wanting their human friends back, humans crying and mourning not being able to be with their Pokémon, and real life being horrible, which would be fixed if we had Pokémon and a pure-hearted 11 year old who somehow has enough power to thwart criminal organisations and make everyone believe in the power of friendship so we don't end up a Rainbow Rocket villain's original timeline). I don't think that's a smart idea to put in a game with all that, as it makes it make no sense. Plus, it feels too pessimistic for a game marketed to children.
And now, the gameplay. The playtime is bloated by grind, but completing the Pokédex is so easy even I did it despite hating the mere thought of completing the Pokédex in every other game. But the shiny charm is basically locked behind the DLC unless you have a thousand hours in the game or have a method of AFK winning battles for hours and hours and hours, which has never been the case before now. It's a little disgusting. I did enjoy the exploration and running around and the fashion, at least. The battles were OK, but I hope they don't return. If I wanted to have real-time battles, I'd play a different series.
That's most of it, I think.
