What's the main thing you play Pokémon for and why?

The story? The Pokemon? The Competitive scene? Or other? If other, what is it? I'm curious what other people prioritize when playing the newer games.

I play for a combination of the story and shiny hunting. (:

    Before it used to be postgame battle facilities and just cycling through the generations ti replay games. But since they took battle facilities away from us I had to pivot to mostly collecting shinies and filling out my dex.

    Just the adventure, and the story. Marching through routes, exploring towns and cities, forests, caves etc while enjoying the music is my favorite. Filling the Pokédex and discovering all of the new Pokemon for each region is good too.

    @RiqMoran Unfortunately, the two really aren't the same. Personally, I don't like to catch Pokemon I don't have any intention to use at some point.

    @Dedenne90524 Same. Frankly I think I'm at a position where I'm still trying to figure that out.

    I would say I play Pokemon mainly for the chance to build and play with different teams- I like to mess around with team building software sometimes in my spare time

    I just play to play, I haven’t been on since TOTK came out, but my recent Pokémon Home trades have enticed me to play again

    I play to have fun beating the campaign with old and new favourites. Completing the pokedex has also been more reasonable since Gen 7 and now the event raids are also a fun challenge to strive for.
