Gen 10 starters are...

So I'm sure you all sat through Pokemon Presents, waiting for the big reveal. But when the time finally came, well we got… these.

(The following segment is purely my subjective opinion, feel free to disagree. These are just my thoughts, just because I don't like something doesn't mean it's bad.) I am beyond dissapointed. The grass starter, Browt, is my favorite of the three, but by no means do I like it. They already had a grass owl, Rowlet, and that one was all around peak. So to go back to that concept and make it far worse is just not the right move. The lack of detail on the body as well as the non-Pokemony 3d eyes just don't sit right with me. On the bright side, I kinda love how he's just an aggro little puffball, trying his best to look intimidating but failing adorably. The only reason I'm picking it as my favorite is because of my urge to pick the bird starter and name it Lord Birb. Up next, the fire starter, Pombon (something about the name tells me it will turn into a bomb), is pretty mediocre, it just looks like a fire dog version of Sprigatito, having all the same design elements but executed far worse. Its fur feels bland, and the design seems far too simple. There's not too much wrong with the design, but nothing that makes it stand out. And chances are it'll evolve into a human in a fursuit, just like all the other quadrapedal domestic animal starters. At least it won't suprise me, given the quality of the announcements so far. Finally, the water starter, Gecqua, is… okay. It has a nice colour scheme and great space usage, but the eyes, and biggest of all THE PROPORTIONS😑. They make it look like something straight out of littlest pet shop. Heck does it annoy me. It's like Pokemon is taking ideas from other franchises rather than making its own. Seems like Pokemon has decided to get revenge on Palworld by making their starters look like Pals rather than Pokemon. And did I forget to mention that 2 of the 3 starters are repeats?! Heck, we already have a grass owl and a water gecko. Maybe Game Freak could try coming up with something new next time? I would be dissapointed if the Bat, Elephant, and Cow fanmade starters that have been all over the internet were official, but that didn't mean they had to make equally underwhelming starters. It's like Game Freak just said "Hey, we're fed up of releasing consistently great base form starters, so sucks to you if expected us to do it again."

I can't even be mad anymore, just dissapointed. At least maybe they'll evolve into something good. At least they could've fixed UNITE.

I’m indifferent because I don’t plan to get it. There’s nothing shown so far that will convince me to review it for purchase in 18 months. The Fire starter is probably going to be Fire/Fairy and if it is, I’m on the record I’ll riot. Now the thing that comes to mind for me is the Anime because if those are indeed the starters, then that would largely imply that our female lead in Liko is going to be a one and done protagonist. If she goes to the new region, she would likely take her starter with her and the only one she would take, of the starters, would either be the Fire type or the Water type(and I’m leaning Fire here). Ditto Roy(who’d probably grab Water) and Dot(who’d take the grass bird) if they follow suit since Ult(or w/e his name is) didn’t join the cast until Season 3 so him leaving isn’t going to matter much.

Having said that, if Liko is indeed one and done, then we’ll start getting leaks on the next Anime series around this time next year.

Ah, okay. I can see how it is a chick, I just thought it was an owl from the name and the eyebrows resembling Hoothoot. (and Angry Birds, despite that not being owl related)
