"No problem! I'm rooting for you," Kukui says, giving me a thumbs up. I return it and leave his house, taking in a deep breath of the night air.

My journey begins!

The night air feels exiting as I step off Kukui’s porch, Rowlet’s Poké Ball warm against my palm. My heartbeat hasn’t slowed since he gave it to me. My first Pokémon. My first partner. My first real step toward becoming Alola’s first champion.

I rush home. Mom takes one look at me and sighs like she already knows I did something reckless.

“I GOT MY FIRST POKÉMON!” I blurt.

She gasps. “Already?!”

I let Rowlet out, and he hops onto my shoulder with a proud hoot. Mom melts instantly, and just like that, everything feels right.

I pack my bag, set three alarms, barely sleep, and wake up before sunrise bursting with excitement.

The next morning

Golden light spills over the trees as Rowlet and I step onto the forest path. The air smells like flowers and wet leaves. It’s the perfect beginning.

“Ready for our first day, buddy?” I ask.

Rowlet chirps confidently.

We barely get ten minutes down the trail before a strange sound echoes from somewhere ahead.

Squish… squish… shlrrp… plop.

Rowlet tenses.

I freeze.

Something oozes out from behind a rock. A small, purple, slimy blob with wiggly antennae and big blinking eyes.

My jaw drops.

“Yes,” I whisper dramatically. “It’s a Grimer.”

Rowlet slowly turns his head toward me with pure disappointment.

The blob squeaks.

“I know, Rowlet. Stay calm,” I say, pulling out a Poké Ball. “This is a dangerous Poison type”

Then the blob wiggles forward, and the rising sunlight hits it just right. The gooey pastel colors glisten. The shape is rounder, softer, cuter.

“…Huh,” I mutter. “You’re… kind of adorable for a Grimer.”

Rowlet hoots loudly like, PLEASE.

My brain finally catches up.

“WAIT. You’re not a Grimer at all. You’re—”

Rowlet spreads his wings triumphantly.

“A GOOMY?!” I yelp.

Goomy proudly wiggles.

I grin. “Even better! Rowlet Leafage!”

Rowlet fires a swirl of leaves. Goomy atacks with the saddest Bubble attack in the history of Bubble attacks.

“Perfect damage,” I say. “Poké Ball GO!”

The ball hits.
Shakes once.
Twice.
Ding!

“I CAUGHT A GOOMY!” I scream like a maniac.

Rowlet flaps excitedly. I scoop both him and the Poké Ball close.

Two Pokémon already. My journey is off to an insane start—

“Wow,” a voice says behind me. “Catching baby dragons before breakfast. Show off.”

I turn around.

Leaning against a tree is a boy around 15 with short brown hair, sharp blue eyes, and a smug smirk he clearly practices in the mirror.
Beside him small, armored, scales ringing like metal—is a Jangmo-o, standing proudly and a shiny Litten now that's impresive.

“Thur,” I say flatly.

Thur waves lazily. “Morning, Izzy.”

Rowlet narrows his eyes at him.

Thu nods toward my new Poké Ball. “A Goomy, huh? Not bad. For your first day, that’s kinda impressive.”

“For my first ten minutes,” I correct him proudly.

He lets out a low whistle. At 6'2", he somehow manages to look even taller when he straightens. “Ambitious already. Guess that means you really think you’ll be champion.”

“Oh, I know I will,” I say, standing tall.

Jangmo-o snorts and gives a metallic clink like it’s laughing at me.

Thu’s smirk deepens—calm, confident, like he already expects to wipe the floor with me. “We’ll see. I’m starting my island challenge today too. And I’m aiming for the same title.”

We lock eyes.

Thu lifts his chin. “Try not to fall too far behind, Izzy.”

“Oh, don’t worry,” I shoot back. “I’ll be waiting at the finish line.”

Jangmo-o growls approvingly, and Thu turns, walking down the trail with the small dragon striding beside him—moving like he already knows he’ll win every battle between us… until the very end.

Rowlet hoots determinedly.

“Yeah,” I say, gripping Rowlet’s Poké Ball and Goomy’s. “Let’s show him what we’re made of.”

My journey just started.

And now?

I have a rival!

This is the second part of the Alola story read @Hades0918's first part if you haven't.

I think @Pokémaniac25 is next.

This is my first story I made for fun so sorry if I don't write that good or if it sounds like a little kid wrote it.

I hope you enjoy it!
