Work in progress of Arlo. Does anyone have advice on how to improve the design before I start fixing the colours/lines and shading?

    I think it looked good

I saw it earlier when you posted it but didn't say anything

Now the picture won't show for some reason

However, I am curious in how you draw that way

It reminds me of the older games

I look at different reference images, set the canvas to a small size (no, I didn't count pixels, I searched up the sprites and checked their sizes), look at different reference images again, and try to replicate their styles.

    Nice

I don't have an art tablet/app, so I have no clue what most of that meant

But I take it you make the thing you're drawing on tiny, look at references, and draw?

Yes. It's not tiny as I draw, though, because I can zoom in. I also use a digital brush and eraser that's only pixels and set it to the smallest size.

I'm finally done with drawing Arlo (though, if anyone has an idea on how to improve this, I can try)!

Now onto the background. I don't really know where to start with drawing that, but I'll try my best to learn how to draw gen 4-5 battle backgrounds.

    No words of advice here

Just want to say it's looking good!

So I was going to start drawing the background and had to look at the actual games instead of sprites to see where the sprites go, and I noticed I stupidly forgot to check reference images from the actual game until now and just realised that the player and opponent sprite don't appear at the same time. I shouldn't have used sprites alone as reference when I was working on a whole screen. Hours wasted, but I guess there's a good side to this as I learnt how to draw Pokémon pixel art.

The challenge now is figuring out how to add the "You are challenged by _____" dialogue and the Poké Balls on the top left.
