    I've decided to colour over a gen 5 background. While I'd normally want to try difficult things in art to get better, this is taking too long and mimicking those backgrounds would take an even long time as I barely even know how to colour and shade, am trying to actually make pixel art for the first time in my life, and both gen 4 and 5 backgrounds use complicated pixel art gradients and colours that I wouldn't know how to achieve even in normal art. I don't enjoy simply copying or tracing, so I'll try to make it as original as I can while sticking to the style instead of just using the bucket tool and painting it a different colour.

    I think I'm done with the background, but if anyone has any suggestions please tell me, this one feels so off. I used an airbrush and rediscovered the smudge tool and managed to somewhat mimic the gen 5 background style (the circles are mostly traced, however). Now all that's left is figuring out the "You are challenged by __!" text box and putting the Poké Ball icon bar at the top left.

    @clasingla

    I haven't managed to finish the battle intro drawing yet (I've been very busy recently), but I'd like to ask a very important question about a cool idea I've had for the battle. Am I allowed to make a trainer use more than one gimmick? I know it sounds like a bad idea, and you can't do it in the games, but my reasoning is that this is a Champion battle— a no-holding-back battle that determines the strongest trainer in the region. If I find that I can't pull it off at all in any way that feels natural, I'll abandon the idea, but if I do manage to pull it off it could be very cool.

    So, I'm now not busy (finally) and have spent a while searching for a way to add the UI (I think that's what it's called) and haven't found a thing. This might turn out to be the most annoying part. Does anyone have any advice? If I can't find anything at all, then I might have to resort to learning how to insert the sprite into a real game and take a screenshot.

    Gen 1 probably has some UI tools. Seeing as how it's been out for a while. Not sure if you should search Pocket Monsters (red, green) or Pokemon (Red, Blue, Yellow)

    I'm trying to replicate gen 5's style. I want to add the message that appears at the start of a battle and the Poké Ball counter thing at the top left, but I can't find them.
