First of all: He got all three gimmicks and Leon only got Maxing. Granted, Leon asked for that but the crazy part is Ash still almost lost! Then they both got an extra Max thanks to Eternataus. He would not have won without that.
Secondly: His Pokémon were not fit to win that imo. I do think he would have had a chance at winning if he changed up his team (Pikachu, Lucario, Infernape, Lycanroc, and Charizard). But his current team... No. Not ready.
I thought I had a third reason but never mind...
