Let's get into it...
First off this is a safe space. So I'll start of sharing my feelings.
I read threads everyday but I'm very selective. I've seen a number of people make excessive threads and inside write the most basic sentret looking like write-up and everyone inside just stays pc and the thread dies before any topic is discussed thuroughly. Imo part of that is because we have so few regulars and many people that like to just read and do nothing with their lives. Man I am starting to hate being on the internet. So please just VOTE.

I chose a safe place
I am never leaving this place!
It is my happy place (which is why I hate when there is conflict here)
I want a place that is kid-friendly and nice
I can not put into words how much this place has boosted my confidence
And I like the fact that we have a small group of users that we know well
I tend to not trust new people and actually worry when I see a new name, so having a select few I know I can trust makes me feel safe

There's indeed very poor content on some threads... this one is a good example, I also skip many of them.
That said, if you don't like it do your part to change it instead of expecting for others to change just because it doesn't please you... ignoring those threads you dislike is a good strategy too... otherwise I guess you can find better things to do with your free time.

One more thing... It's perfectly fine to take breaks from this.
I've been around basically since the beginning, four years ago or so and I (like many others) took several breaks from this... sometimes for many months.
It's fine to do that and I actually believe it's healthy. For sure I'll take more breaks in the future... I recommend the same for everyone who is feeling addicted or burnt out from this.
