Lance's Point of View

I stumble backwards as the psycho Absol shoves past me, screaming about an upcoming attack. "Watch it," I holler at her as I gain my balance. "You could have hurt me!"

The Dark type turns and looks at me with a pair of dazzling, panicked eyes. "You'll be hurt worse than what I could have done if you don't leave this village before tonight!"

"What do you mean by that," Homare questions with concern.

"In just a few hours, this village will be attacked," the Absol answers.

"By what," I demand.

"I-I'm not sure…" she responds truthfully. "However, I do know it will be something violent and horrible!"

"Well, whatever it is we can handle it," I tell her. Honestly, I don't believe her. She can't give me any real details, so obviously she's making this whole thing up. I'm too tired to deal with an attention seeking Absol right now…

"What makes you so sure of that," she questions, her eyes narrowed in on me.

"Because I'm a powerful hero," I answer in bored tone. "Now let me ask you something."

"What is it," she inquires curiously, her eyes softening.

"Are you single," I ask, putting on my best, most charming smile. The Disaster Pokémon looks utterly revolted by this and my companion gives me a smack in the back of my head. "OW!!! It was a genuine question…"

"Excuse my partner's foolishness," Homare says with a small bow. "He doesn't always act the way he should…" I stick my tongue out at the Fire type and stand up straighter. He sighs with disappointment. "Anyways, thank you for the warning, but it's late and we're ready for bed. Have a good night!"

"You ignored my warning, so everything that happens from here is your fault," the Absol shouts at us as we walk away. I just give her a thumbs up without looking back as we enter the Never Leaf Hotel.

Homare's P.O.V

Me and Lance are lying in our beds. Neither of us have said anything but we both know the other is awake. I'm not sure why he's still up, but I'm actually worried about that warning the Absol gave us. Should we have taken her more seriously? I mean, she wasn't giving details so it's kind of hard to believe her. But what if she was telling the truth…

"What's your motive," Lance randomly asks into the darkness, forcing me out of my train of thought. I look over at him, completely confused.

"My what," I question, not hearing him the first time.

"Your motive," Lance repeats. "You know, your reasoning for wanting to be a hero. You asked me that question the day we set off together but never told me your answer to it."

"What's got you wondering it right now," I inquire, turning onto my side to fully face him. He shrugs, turning over to me in his bed as well.

"I don't know," he answers. "I just kind of realized that we've been journeying together for almost a week and I barely know you."

"Ah," I mutter, nodding my head. "Well, my reason is a bit personal."

"You don't have to share it then," the Blade Pokémon says. I shake my head.

"No, I'm going to. I was just letting you know," I reply. With a sigh, I begin to explain. "My sister, Jasmine was the reason I want to be a hero. See, growing up my parents had set specific expectations for us. They wanted us to be the best Pokémon possible. I, of course, always made sure to meet every single one of their expectations. I behaved well, cleaned the house, kept good grades, and evolved into Armarouge, just like they wanted. My sister, on the other hand, was almost the exact opposite. She was a rebel, always causing a seen. Instead of cleaning messes, she made the messes. The only thing she did right was make good grades. She was actually a genius! Especially in the fields of science and chemistry. However, she wasn't all that sane. She would make potions that she would use others to experiment on. She caused a lot of pain for everyone around her. My parents tried everything to fix her, but when she chose to evolve into Ceruledge they became furious and kicked her out. We haven't seen her again. I just remember the pain and suffering she caused for all those Pokémon and I made it my goal to protect others from Pokémon like her."

After I finish explaining I realize that I am crying and quickly turn away from Lance, who hasn't spoke once. He's still staring at me, nodding his head as he processes the information. "You know," he finally says after a bit, "I'm glad you shared that with me. Really helps me understand you better."

I look at him with surprise. "I didn't expect you to be somebody that likes to know people on a deeper level."

"There's probably a lot you wouldn't expect from me that I will surprise you by doing," he tells me with a small smile. I'm about to ask him a question of my own when suddenly there's a BOOM that shakes the whole hotel followed by maniacal laughter.

It's been too long since I wrote a chapter…

Anyways, I'm sorry if this chapter seems dumb, I just wanted to give their relationship a bit of development!

I… strangely don't have much more to say
