Try these in order:
- Hard reboot the Switch
- Hold the POWER button for about 12 seconds.
- Turn it back on.
- Update the system
- Settings → System → System Update.
- Check if it happens with one game only
- If yes:
- Delete the game software (not save data).
- Reinstall it.
- Also check for game updates.
- If yes:
- Remove the microSD card
- Power off first.
- Remove the SD card and boot without it.
- Corrupted SD cards commonly trigger this error.
- Check for corrupted data
- Settings → Data Management → Manage Software → select the game → “Check for Corrupt Data”.
- If your Switch is modded/homebrew
- Error 2168-0002 is extremely common with outdated Atmosphère, themes, overlays, or incompatible homebrew apps. Community reports mention themes and older Atmosphère/Tinfoil versions causing it.
- Remove custom themes/plugins and update Atmosphère + sigpatches.
- If the console crashes immediately on boot
- That can indicate hardware issues (Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chip, game card reader, motherboard, etc.). Some users report persistent boot-loop crashes needing repair.
