(didn't see this till now, oops). For 2025, playing Unite and TCGP for the first time and absolutely loving them so much I've played them everyday since. (And joining this forum 😁)

I started a playthrough of Japanese Pokémon Red early last year. It was one of the first games I played in Japanese back when I first started learning, I hadn't actually done a Kanto playthrough in a while, and I had never played it on the big screen with my Super Game Boy 2 despite it being one of the first things I bought when I moved to Japan.

I didn't rush through it. I took my time and played it on and off throughout the year in between playing other games.

It was fun and quite a nostalgic yet new experience. I often recommend that new or younger fans who haven't played them at least give the original games a go, just to experience them, but also because I think it is the definitive Kanto experience.

I had forgotten how limited your bag and PC item storage really was, and how inconvenient sorting boxes could be, so it did help put some things back into perspective and highlight some things I now take for granted even from the GBA onwards. I still recommend gen 1, but it refreshed my memory on a couple of caveats.

Not the most revolutionary endeavour in the world, but a fun little trip down memory lane.
