Legends Z-A's Battle System?

So finally after a year of waiting we have got some new info on Legend's Z-A!

But I've got a question…

How is it's battle system going to work? I say this because in the trailer, Pokémon predominately show the new form of battling, that being a sort of 'Real-time battle' which seems to combine the survival parts of PLA with the normal battle system. I don't really understand this though…

Pokémon as a series is a turn-based game and I presume a lot of people will have bought into the franchise in assumption that it will be a turn-based series (obviously I'm not saying they have to be stuck to that system forever btw, just saying). For me personally I'm a bit-mixed about the new battles presented in Z-A as I enjoy the more classic turn-based combat of Pokémon. Also I feel that, if the new battle system is solely the 'Real-time battle' system, it would mean Pokémon battles would feel a bit… confusing? You would have a lot more to consider than the turn-based combat (e.g. where the other person's Pokémon is, where you are, where your Pokémon are, etc…)

So to give my opinion about what's been shown in the trailer, I'm just mainly confused. For me, I hope the 'Real-time battle' is like in SV where you can chose to either battle the Pokémon or use the auto battle function.

Also, if you want to give your feeling about the new battles or have an answer to how the system will work, comment below!

I thought the battle style would be a little confusing for me to learn.

It's the beginning of the end of turn based battles as I did notice the battles are leaning a bit more on action based system as in position the pokemon before attacking. Sounds a bit more exciting than turn based battles.

So in-between this post being posted and it being approved/visible, Pokémon released an article about Legends Z-A confirming that the Pokémon battle system is indeed only the 'Real-time battles'. Also in that period of time I've warmed up to the idea of more action-based battles, so I'm pretty happy with what we've got!

So yeah, this post was outdated within like 30 minutes T_T

I honestly think I would have preferred if they kept the legends arceus style of battling

Yeah, that would have been my preferred way of fighting but I suppose we have to just be open to new ideas being implemented/ experimented with.

There is still some hope that maybe you can stand still and the other pokemon won't move and it'll be like a 'move if you want to!' approach and the Flaafy that Chickorita faints in the trailer wasn't really moving so hopefully…

It doesn't sound like the end of the world. I'd rather have turn-based battles, but I could get used to real-time battles too. I think I need more information before making a final judgement, however.

I feel like it will be a mashup of Kingdom Hearts and Legends arceus, but that's my small guess.

It feels a lot more dynamic but at that point might as well take full control of the Pokemon and do this Like a Dragon style.

I’m SO happy that we now have a battle system similar to that of the anime! The fact that the Pokemon can attack the player as well makes me excited for any potential antagonist battles!
