Happens often, any way this can be prevented? Usually against the same people too so don't know if they're doing something to exploit to make the other person wait until they leave because if you do leave you lose rank.

They have been affected by the desync bug from attaching energy or the Mew attack. They have to restart their client or else they will continue to auto lose while looking for a match. They are not exploiting anything, they are suffering from a bug.

Some people have reported losing points while waiting in queue after a desync, the game is pairing you against those people, and giving you the win since their client fails to enter the room.
