The Alola Story: Introduction

I sprint through the forest as fast as I can, leaping over rocks and pushing branches out of my way as I go. I have my backpack in my right hand and my jacket in my left, a half eaten donut hanging from my mouth. It's the last day of school and I'm about to be late!

I spent all night doing some early celebration with friends, gaming and snacking on chips and other junk. I forgot to set my alarm before I collapsed at 3 AM. My mom warned me this would happen, but I ignored her.

I finally make it out the forest, shielding my eyes as the sun light hits my face. Once my eyes adjust, I can see the school up ahead. I sigh with relief, taking a second to catch my breath. Then, the bell booms from the school, signaling the start of the school day.

"Dang it," I try to shout, but the donut in my mouth prevents it. I take off running again, dashing through the empty field. Hopefully I can make it before I'm dramatically late.

As I race through the field, I pass people and Pokémon alike. A Tauros, Exeggutor, Kantonian Raichu, even a Meltan. Normally I stop and greet the Pokémon, but I don't have time for that right now.

I crash through the doors and continue my high speed down the halls. I can see my classroom! I check my watch. Only seven minutes late! That's not too bad!

I look up from my watch, smiling, happy that I made it in a reasonable time. Then a voice stops me.

"Izzy! You know you can't go Rapidashing down the halls like that," it hollers at me. I stop in my tracks, knowing who that voice belongs to. I turn with a sigh.

"I know, Principal Oak," I say, looking at the man in front of me. It is the principal of the school, Professor Oak. He has long white hair and dark tanned skin. He's wearing a bright blue T-Shirt and tan shorts. He's smiling at me widely.

"Well, now that you've Slowbro-ed down, let me tell you of the time I visited Kalos," he says, taking a seat in one of the benches nearby, patting the spot next to him.

"Well, I kind of need to-" I start to tell him I've got to go, but he starts anyways, talking about him "being a young man with a Luvdisc for adventure." I glance at my classroom one last with a sigh, going and taking a seat beside him.

45 minutes later

"And when I returned here to Alola I temporarily felt like a Magikarp out of water as I readjusted to my life here," Principal Oak finally finishes.

"Cool," I respond, not actually hearing him. I zoned out half an hour ago and don't have a clue what's been said since. Suddenly, the bell rings throughout the school, snapping me out of my daze. I shoot up to my feet. "No," I shout, the principal getting up, too.

"That's the end of the first class of today," he says, stating the obvious. "I know I told you a cool story, but your school is more important. You should have went to class instead."

I turn to him, glaring. I'm about snap at him but then Kukui walks to us. "Hey Izzy! I see you're talking to our principal here. Did he tell you one of his cool stories?"

"Yes," I say with a tired sigh. Kukui chuckles.

"Let me walk you to the next class. We're headed outside to learn about the Pokémon," the professor says to me with a smile. I smile back.

"Well, I guess I'll see y'all later Feraligatrs," Oak says with a wave. I give half a wave back, still mad at him for wasting my time.

"You didn't miss much. We just went around the room saying what everyone's going to do with their life after they finish their final day of school today," Kukui tells me as we begin to walk.

"That's what I was looking forward to most about today," I exclaim sadly. I enjoy sharing things about myself and learning about others.

"You can still tell me," the professor tells me, chuckling when I smile excitedly.

"Really," I ask. He nods with a "mhm." "I want to be Alola's first champion! I got lucky that I'm graduating the year the island chooses to hold the first championship. The moment school is over today I'm gonna start my journey!"

Kukui nods along. "Good goal. You know what requirements you have to meet to participate in the championships, don't you?"

"Um…" I look at the ground, embarrassed. "I-I thought you just come in with a team and battle when it's ready."

The professor laughs. "A bit more complex than that," he tells me, ruffling my hair. "Tell you what. Come by my place after school and I'll help you out."

I look up at him with shock. "You would," I ask.

"I'm a professor and teacher. It's my job to help when someone needs it," he smiles. "Plus, you're my favorite student. I'll always assist you!"

"I knew it," I shout. "Joey said he's the favorite! He owes me five bucks!"

Kukui rolls his eyes and chuckles. "Don't go telling everyone! Teachers aren't supposed to have favorites. Anyone asks I love all my students equally," he tells me but I barely listen, giving him an absent minded "mhm." He sighs. "Alright, go join the others," the professor tells me as we catch up to the group.

I run over to everyone (specifically Joey) with new excitement. Later today, my dream journey will begin!

End of school day

I approach my teacher's door, taking a deep breath as I knock. Somewhere inside, a Rockruff is barking like crazy.

"Calm down," Kukui yells over it, cracking the door and smiling when he sees me. "Izzy," he exclaims, opening the door fully. "Come in, come in! I'll be with you in a second. I've got food on the stove."

He rushes back into his kitchen as I hesitantly enter his house. I walk in and gasp when I see the giant fish tank. I go up to it and watch as all the Luvdisc swim around.

"Alright, I'm ready," he says, walking into the room with a bowl of noodles in his hand. "Let's go ahead and get straight to business. You want to begin your journey to become champion?"

I turn and face him, nodding. "Yes I do!"

Kukui sits on his couch, gesturing to the seat in front of him. I take a seat in it. "So in order to enter the tournament, you'll have to beat every Trial Captain. There's one on each island. You'll have to battle them according to the rules they state. Upon defeat, they will give you a Z-Crystal of the type they use," he explains to me, and I nod along inattentively.

"I don't have a Z-Ring, though, so won't that be useless for me," I ask him as he fills his mouth with noodles. I give him a second to finish what he has.

"I've got you covered," he says after he swallows. He puts his hand into his pocket and pulls out a Z-Ring. I gasp as he hands it to me. "I can't give you a crystal, but this will at least get you started."

I slide it onto my wrist. It fits perfectly. "Thank you," I say with awe and the professor grins with a nod.

"That's not all. See the Pokeballs on the table," he asks, and I look and see three balls. "The left one is Rowlet, middle Litten, and right is Poplio. You may choose one to begin your journey."

I'm on the verge of tears from the amount of gratitude I feel. I wish I would have known I was his favorite sooner. I totally would have abused this power! I look at the three Pokeballs.

"Hmm," I reach out for the middle but hesitate. "I'll go," I wiggle my fingers, moving over and picking up the left. "Rowlet!"

Kukui smiles. "Good choice! Take care of your new partner!"

"I will," I say, standing up. "Thank you for everything, professor!"

"No problem! I'm rooting for you," he says, giving me a thumbs up. I return it and leave his house, taking in a deep breath of the night air.

My journey begins!

So I ended up making the introduction. Sorry if Kukui or Oak feels off character. It's been a while since I've watched the anime.

Because we are already on Melemele Island, the first trial, which will be written by @Pokémaniac25 will take place here.

They will make their own character and rules for the battle.

To anybody wanting to join, we have the first three trials already taken but the last one is available now.

Fire, Grass, and Poison are the only types taken.
