Interaction between Ditto and Magcargo

Okay, so I played against a Magcargo with my Mew Ex and Ditto deck. It turns out that if you copy Magcargo's attack, you CAN damage your active Pokémon, unlike the attack description, which says ANOTHER Pokémon must be selected to take damage. Did they just forget this interaction when programming? Am I missing something?
