Who is your favorite Gen 9 rival and why?

I’ve been thinking about how SV gave us some great rivals and want to know who is everyone’s favorite rival and why?

Personally for me it’s Penny, because I feel like I relate to her a lot

    Professor Turo's Miraidon being the toughest Rival threw me for a loop

    I think the concept of a rival has been incorrectly applied to a variety of characters in the current Pokémon franchise. Like "evil" teams, it exists because it was there in gen 1, and people misattribute it to any character you battle repeatedly throughout the story.

    Nemona declares herself to be your rival and actually fits the mold in SV, though it is more of a friendly and supportive rivalry than the typical antagonistic ones seen in the early days of the franchise.

    I don't consider Penny or Arven to be rivals, but while I disliked both of them at first, Arven grew on me.

    In what way do you believe you are being rude?

    Penny is the leader of the antagonist team, and you don't battle her until the end of the game. You spend more battles fighting alongside Arven than you do against him.

    How do you define a rival? I doubt it's as broad as "a character you battle", because then almost every trainer is a rival. Nor do I think you would say something so specific as they have to match Green beat for beat, being a trainer of the same age from the same town, starting your journey on the same day, choosing from the same set of starters and fighting them multiple times until you fight them as the champion.

    I am guessing a subset of these qualifiers are necessary in your definition.

    The best rival is jfor once whatever fuel Miraidon is running on.

    I just didn’t want to seem like I was being rude and saying “oh you’re wrong”

    My definition of rival is a character that pushes the main player to get stronger, so this probably why I consider them rivals because while Arven and Penny don’t directly say “oh get stronger so we can battle” through their paths you are encouraged to get stronger to take on the Team Star leaders/titans
