They can do it and they did it in Unova (oh, how horrible that was, I do not understand why so many people love Unova and Iris, maybe it is about the games), the champion of Orange Islands and a semifinalist of Hoenn championship does not know how to catch a pokémon (after teaching it to Serena and Dawn!).
It was pain to watch.
They did something similar in Alola too. I remember seeing a post somewhere about how Ash searched for data in Hoenn and how in Alola.
The point is, they sure can make Ash a newbie again. They already did it twice. It is not something I would like to see happen again, though.

Yes. Well it kinda have been hinted by the official Pokemon staff that it was only a matter of time before he and his Pikachu returns, and said he is still there and adventuring.
Many people have been wondering if he will return (including me before). But after tons of research and analysis, I think I got the answer.I have a discussion here that will probably give the answer. Just search “The answer of Ash Ketchum’s return” in this forum.

I liked Ash at the beginning of the series, but his character doesn't feel consistent. He's a completely different person by the end of the series. I'm glad that new characters are being used because they can develop, as opposed to Ash who resolved most of his character flaws by the time the Ruby and Sapphire show started.
