Turn Professor's Research into a mechanic

In my opinion, Professor's Research is handily the best card in the game. All the bot battles run it, and I've yet to battle a human player that doesn't run it. I would go as far as to say that it's the only required card in a deck. Maybe except pokeballs, but they still aren't as powerful as Professor's Research.
To that end, I think it should be removed as a card. If a deck is 20 cards, and 2 of those cards HAVE to be Professor's Research (yes, I understand it's not literally required, but not running it puts you at a disproportionate disdisadvantage than those who are running it), then our decks are 18 cards, not 20. And again, in my opinion, a majority of the engagement and enjoyment in TCGs comes from the freedom of choice and expression of deck building. And when decks are so small, two cards is a LOT.
And so, as the title suggests, I think Professor's Research should be turned into a mechanic; akin to an activated ability like an Overwatch ultimate. It should be charged up by various actions (knocking out opponents Pokemon, playing pokemon, evolving pokemon, using items, doing damage etc.) and the activated to draw cards on your turn. I think this would make games much more consistent and enjoyable. Nothing feels worse than losing a game because your Professor's Researchs was in the last five cards of your deck. This would also allow for two more cards per deck, which would make deck building much more interesting and expressive.
Plus, if the Pokemon Co is worried about monitizing it, they could simply make another Accessories slot to decks for various cosmetics related to this Professor's Research mechanic. Maybe you could have various Professors, with varying levels of quality. It could change the effects or visuals displayed when activating it. Add them to the item shop and BOOM more money. We know they like that.
Just an idea. Don't crucify me in the comments plz. :)
