A Re-do of my Mainline Game Poll

I accidentally put in the introduction square lol, so I'm reposting it here for more discussion. lumping together the remakes with their original versions because there's no other room on the poll. personally, B2W2 is the Goat. it's where the franchise peaked in every single way, an absolutely doubles down on everything black and white one did good.

Failed to load the poll.

So this is what our favorite mainline game is? I've mentioned this a couple times and I think some people are getting tired of it, but Sword.

I JUST REALIZED THE POLL FAILED TO LOAD AAAAAAAAAAA (by the way more on why I think Black and White 2 is the goat, there's so much I can go over that make these games pretty much almost perfect but oh my gosh they're just genuinely that good. everyone feels so alive and real, I love how the game feels. I love the little details like how Hugh raised his own starter Pokemon because he was deep down scared of team plasma, I love how Team Plasma actually feels so haunting and threatening this time around, I love how well paced the game is, literally the only problem I have with the pacing is the typical tutorial stuff Pokémon forces you to do. 20 Turns in Black and White 2 feels better than three turns and Scarlet and violet or sword and shield. every hour of the game feels like you're going somewhere, nothing feels wasted. the bosses and dungeons in this game are refined to its finest, the penultimate dungeon of the game is literally without a doubt one of the most memorable things in a game ever. I can gosh about this game over and over again but I need you all to know y'all need to play it.)

My favorite mainline so far is probably Legends Arceus because of the storytelling and gameplay (definitely not the graphics).

The story in this entry is unusual and has not been seen in the more recent entries. For being a Pokemon game the story is not rainbows and unicorns as it usually is and takes a more serious approach and feels more like a Legend of Zelda style Pokemon game, rather than be a dark and gritty RPG game where you play as Serious McGritty in a dark and gritty wasteland where fun is banned or a world filled with rainbows and unicorns where you play as the happy go lucky child prodigy becoming everyone's best friend making friends with everyone you meet (as in some of the more recent Pokemon titles). Those may be extremes but Legends Arceus was a breath of fresh air as it skewed Pokemon away from the rainbowland extreme and put it in a more central position more traditionally found in legend of Zelda games. The story as well was interesting, as well as with you playing as a 17 year old made it more relatable with older fans and allowed for more serious plot points while also maintaining some of the more happy go lucky moments allowing for a proper balance.

The gameplay is not the usual gameplay and allows for dynamic movement and variations, but it is not breaking out of the mold just yet. It feels like it is trying to be an action JRPG so badly but it can't so it is somewhere in between, but even with that so far it is the best battle system the main series has had ever. I was quite disappointed when I played Scarlet/Violet and saw the same boring system when I preferred this new battle system so much more (but maybe one day we will get more immersive control of our Pokemon like in Pokken but would rather have something closer to the modern Final Fantasy style or the classic Like a Dragon style). Hopefully we get more of this and further improvements.

The graphics suck though but graphics aren't everything as shown by many new games this year, there are a lot of redeeming qualities.

Here's irony for you: I hate Arceus's storyline and only like the graphics 😅

say what you want about the level curve, but a part of me always comes back to Johto. Species selection got a lot better with HGSS as well with the introduction of the Pokewalker. It has plenty of Pokemon to catch and a level of immersion that makes you feel like a trainer whether you’re playing the game or going for a walk. The music is also great and the daily events make you want to take your time and explore daily.
I also love platinum for having lots of ribbons to collect, a villa to decorate, and an overall much more polished version of Diamond and Pearl.

with that all being said, it’s fun to see how the perception of the games has shifted over the years. I remember a lot of people hating gen V when it came out, and now it’s arguably the most beloved in the franchise. People have been warming up to XY and SM and it’ll be interesting to see the people that grew up with SV one day say similar things about it. So much of what can make a Pokemon game the best or worst is what features people prioritize since there’s a bit of something for everyone.
