Do we need Promo Cards behind a paywall?

Hello Folks!

I really enjoyed playing the game so far. I have spent some money on the pass because it feels like a good offer and a fair way to support the game. I also like to collect all the cards and even if i am slighty behind because i haven't spent much money, i really feeling good with the game.

Sadly i saw, that the 50th promo card (shiny mewtwo) is only available when you spent 24$. And i really want to ask, if this is a good way to treat the game. I wanted to get all promo cards. Promo cards can't be traded so there is only one way to get this Card. When spending money.

The card itself really fits to the theme of the pack. It is a cool looking card and i truely want to have this Card. But i won't buy it. And seeing this empty spot in the promo deck is really disappointing to me. It interrupts my streak of things i have to do before they are gone. Other cards aren't gone even if a new pack releases. And this is a bad experienxe for me. But maybe it is just me…

So my question is: do we really need to have Promo Cards behind a Paywall?

I am not to fussed about fancy versions of cards. They are nice to have, and I will take them if I can get them, but at the end of the day they are cosmetic differences. What matters more to me is accessibility of functional game pieces.

So long as a version of the card is accessible to everyone, free to play players or dedicated whales, I think that is reasonable. It mitigates the "pay to win" element that is inherent in all card games with randomised booster packs. What should matter in a competitive card game is your skill in deck building and play, not who can afford to buy the best cards.

    That's the ideal, anyway.

If promos become paid and functionally exclusive, that is when it becomes unacceptable to me. If there is absolutely no way to gain access to any version of a card without paying a premium, the game has become pay to win.
