Who is AZ?
AZ is that character of Legends Z-A, right? But he also appeared before that. Who is he?

Oh so from what I know from playing Y, he's this guy with a Floette and he loved her and there was like a Pokémon war or something and many Pokémon in the war had died including that Floette and he was so sad he took the dead Pokémon and used them to resurrect Floette and make her immortal. That's the guy, right?

SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRETY OF POKÉMON X AND Y:

3000 years ago, Kalos was involved in a war. AZ was the king of Kalos at the time, and his Floette had to fight in it. A few years later, he received a coffin and Floette's flower. Full of grief, he created the Ultimate Weapon- a machine that could bring any Pokémon back to life, and even grant the Pokémon and the machine's user eternal life. However, the type of energy it used was the life force of Pokémon, and many Pokémon were lost so AZ could revive his Floette. After he revived it, he was filled with rage and hatred for the war that took away his Floette, and turned it into the Ultimate Weapon, destroying both sides and ending the war. Floette, after seeing how many lives AZ ended to restore its life, left him. During the story of XY, he's still wandering in search of his Floette.
He's involved in the story of XY because he still has the key to the Ultimate Weapon during the game. After the player becomes champion, he battles them, wanting to know what it means to be a Pokémon trainer. When you beat him, he says that he finally feels free from the part of him that built the Ultimate Weapon, and Floette, sensing that he's changed, descends from the sky into his hands, and he sees it again for the first time in 3000 years.

Spoiler alert for Pokemon XY
AZ is a man who lived in Kalos 3,000 years ago. During that time, there was a war going on between two nations. His Floette was drafted into the war and didn't come back. In his grief, AZ built a machine that brought Floette back to life and made both of them immortal. However, Floette left him when she discovered that the machine was powered by the life force of other Pokemon. Enraged, AZ turned his machine into the ultimate weapon and used it to bring a dark end to the war. He then wandered the world alone for millennia, waiting for his Floette to come back. In Pokemon XY, the player battles AZ. After battling, he learns what it truly means to be a trainer, and Floette returns to him.

Why do I remember that the ultimate weapon was used after Floette was resurrected, sort of like in a revenge fashion by AZ.
