Why Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon ex ability doesn’t block Mimikyu’s attack?

I play Pokémon TCH LIVE and I found something interesting.

Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon ex has Cornerstone Stance ability that “Prevent all damage from attacks done to this Pokémon by your opponent’s Pokémon that have an Ability”.

Since Mimikyu has an ability, I thought that opponent could do nothing in their next turn. To my surprise, it still damaged my Ogerpon ex by 70. Is this normal or some kind of bug?

Mimikyu’s ability is Safeguard and it used an attack called Ghost Eye.

Mimikyu "Ghost Eye" attack place damage counters which is not the same as damage from attacks, that's why Mimikyu can attack through Cornerstone Ogerpon ex.

Any other attack that place damage counters will also do damage to Cornerstone Ogerpon ex.

Both cards are functioning as intended. Placing damage counters, which is what Mimikyu's Ghost Eye attack is doing, is considered an attack effect rather than it doing damage and wouldn't be blocked by Cornerstone Stance.

Why Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon ex ability doesn’t block Mimikyu’s attack?
