No-EX battle format, please!

EX pokemon (specifically basic and stage 1) are ruining my pvp experience.

They are so overpowered compared to other cards, that it feels like we must play with them and the matches are decided within the first 3 rounds, leaving little (or no) room for strategy or creativity - a.k.a. FUN!

Short list of most problematic / least "competitive" encounters:

Articuno EX + Misty

Mewtwo EX + Gardevoir

Pikachu EX

Exeggutor EX

Marowak EX

Solutions I think will solve this unentertaining gameplay-loop:

  • Create "Non-EX" format available from the drop down menu in the "Versus > Random match" window, where decks with EX pokemon are not playable.
  • OR: Adjust current rules to only allow a single EX card to be included in a Deck, so they are less reliable and more of a "lucky top-deck" or "finisher".
  • OR: across the board reduced HP on EX cards, and/or increased cost of attacks ( though this seems the hardest to accurately balance ).

Additional balances I'd like to see:

Misty's text to read: flip 2 coins add a (water) energy for each heads

(I say this with all the love in my heart for misty decks)

Thank you for taking the time to read! Besides the experiences outlined above, I am loving this game, and think the balance really engaging - but currently this is the majority of the matches I'm experiencing, which dissuades me from wanting to play, or even try new decks. My hope is that with these or similar changes the game will have more longevity because it will remain engaging to collect, build, and play against unique decks.

But you knock out EX you have 2 pts, and EX is not easy to use due to Energy and conditions

Many ex (not EX) only require 2 energies and a very playable ex only requires 1 single energy...

Sure some require 3 or 4 but their HP and damage compensates for that... as a disadvantage they give away 2 points, what's wrong with that? Come on it's balanced...

Thoughts on upping retreat cost or removing retreat as an option for EX pokemon as a balance option? The two point "balancing" seems like a moot point when you can completely dominate early game with these EX and then retreat once they are threatened. Mewtwo EX is a big offender for this. Typically the opponent has to use many cards, lose pokemon, and done multiple retreats just to survive an basic / stage one EX, and yet once their is a chance for a knock out, you retreat for two energy denying all of their counter play.

I agree there should be multiple formats. And I am not a fan of ex Pokémon myself.

But I think they are not going to get rid of chase cards like exs anytime soon. And if they did get rid of them, then the next most powerful cards would be the new problem cards you would want banned.

I'm fine with chase cards and powerful cards. The game-play I dislike are early game cards that do 80+ damage and can tank multiple hits (basic and stage 1 EX).

I should add Starmie to this list too.
