winning the coin flips puts you at a disadvantage. Adding the ability to an energy to the first turn would make it fair.

Not always, depends on the deck... going 1st it's not as bad as you think as a beginner, there are tactics that really benefit from going first, with time and experience you will see.

I would still prefer if the beginner would be unable to attack but would instead have the option to place 1 energy. This would prevent from the ftk and would balance between one player being ahead in energy while the other being ahead in a single attack.
