What are the Mystery Dungeon games like?

Do they work in a similar fashion to The Legend of Zelda series, hence the word "dungeon" in their names? Are they good and worth checking out? I've not played a Mystery Dungeon game at all before… If I plan to start doing one, which one should I go for first? Rescue Team DX on Switch, perhaps? I assume that's a remaster/remake of the original Red and Blue Rescue Team games from GBA and DS, and it looks like it has both Red and Blue in one as a single game.

Or, I might be wrong, but that's how the cover of Rescue Team DX looks and suggests. I haven't read the official descriptions of that game, though. Also it's nice to be as a Pokemon, since there are no humans involved in MD, unless they transformed into Pokemon and talk that way.

The cover arts of MD games look great too, especially the Explorers of Sky one. That's very awesome! :D Has Pikachu holding a shiny orb out with a smile and cute face, Charizard looking up diagonally like Pikachu with a fierce but smiling face as well, and the other cool Pokemon Prinplup, Meganium and Shaymin (Sky Forme). Such an awesome cover art of this Explorers of Sky game as I fondly remember it came out years ago, when I was a teen! ^^ [Kirby dance]

I would probably say the best to start with to get the best mystery dungeon experience is rather the explorers games or super mystery dungeon they probably have some of the best stories in the mystery dungeon universe but if you only are able to get mystery dungeon rescue team dx you still should get it though it might not be the most emotional story it still has a pretty good story

I’ve played Super Mystery Dungeon, and it’s not really a puzzle game like Zelda, it’s more combat kind of focused dungeons. It’s still turned based, so every time you move so does your enemy. Think of it sort like chess structured, you move and attack on a large grid-based area with tunnels and open areas, with each of your units, and you can use multiple Pokémon at a time, have unique abilities and attacks. I don’t think the stories are super deep usually, explorers of time/darkness being an exception, but they are fun stories. There’s all sorts of different items that aid you, different areas with different Pokémon to fight, traps and treasures, side quests, etc.

I’m sure someone else will come and explain it better, but here you go :)
