I decided to break this up into 2 parts, gens 1 to 5, and gens 6 to 9. For a place in the final 2, here are the starters nominated.

I move that Mudkip be disqualified from the bracket due to intolerable early 2000s humour.
As for my vote, it's a tough pick between Bulbasaur and Turtwig, but I narrowly opt for Bulbasaur.
