what is going on pokemon, frustrated
its disappointing that I've had to create a new/old pokemon tcg online account to play, as live is full of bugs. and online organised tournament play also still mainly uses online.
little noise was made about the release of pokemon live, as a keen online player I dint even know about it until a week or so after it was released globally. Being able to play pokemon tcg on your phone app should be something everyone knows about. but in hind sight a good job they didnt make alot of noise about it as with the amount of bugs and crashes etc people would have probably given up on it by now anyway.
credit to pokemon that the card designs are magnificent at the moment and game play seems as good as ever. in terms of designing cards etc I am very impressed. Its a shame the pokemon live app doesn't live up to this high level at the moment and many players it seems frustrated and feeling they have so many ideas how it could be improved to work better, play nicer, better online tournament play features. come on.
I understand to some extent pokemon is marketed to children as I was when it was first launched. But many older players it seems now getting into deck building and battling. The cards are incredible to make a very challenging game, with so many options to make your own personal competitive decks, by far the best card game in existence I believe. I cant help but think pokemon could provide better online system for this to happen. Its excitingly close but also so far away at the same time.

For what it's worth, PTCGO was in beta for like 3-4 years before it's full release.

ok, i'm not sure what is meant by beta.
but maybe its not fully released, and that's why I didn't hear anything about it.
But as someone who knew it was coming soon I kept an eye out, and it said that it was available for download now worldwide, as far as I'm concerned thats released on the official pokemon website.
I had a few days off live and just went back on to see how its going. 1st match went fine. next 2 matches against mew vmax opponent seemingly doing nothing within the first 1 or 2 turns and there clock ticking down. Why are people still playing using mew I dont know? must have happened 4-6 times in my last 10 games,
the message upon opening the game reads 'its got better'? Im not sure about that. maybe just people stopping playing like me.
I dont underestimate how hard it must be to program these mechanics into a game and software. But im also sharing my honest experience that its not working and i have actually signed back up to PTC online and as I have very limited cards and playing theme deck for the first time and quite enjoying that to be fair.
I have invested a reasonable amount of money in my card collection and the way it has being transferred if this system is still in early development I am not happy.

@pears_91 Beta is a stage in software development when the basic features of the application have been coded and are released to users to test. Bugs are expected to happen because they always crop up once people start using the software under different conditions than the development environment. Generally in beta the bugs are worked on, and this can cause new bugs to crop up, until the point where the bugs that break the software too much to use are fixed. (There is no such thing as bug free software, software would never get released if fixing all of the bugs was required) Once bugs are fixed to the point where the software runs smoothly for the majority of users a release can be planned. Ideally you fix even more bugs between that decision and the actual release and then continue working on improvements, bug fixes, and new features after release, and by this point and bugs that crop up should be from adding new stuff, not making old stuff more efficient.
maybe just people stopping playing like me.
Nope. I and many others are playing just fine without any issues. I've not run into any issues at all during the beta, but I'm not naive and realize other people are having these issues, which sucks, but if it's working on Linux via Proton it's probably because the game itself is working fine, but certain hardware/internet services/software are currently incompatible and need to be fixed.
I dont underestimate how hard it must be to program these mechanics into a game and software and in many ways im amazed they can do it,
It's incredibly hard. Try building a car from scratch. It's a similar difficulty that just requires a different toolset.
but it has already been done very well online.
Yes, after 10 years. The Online beta was similarly plagued with bugs, because creating a digital version of the Pokemon TCG is hard. It seems pretty likely TPCi does not own the rights to the code of Online, so they want to create a TCG simulator that they do have the rights to and cannot use Online in any way because of that. Even then, PTCGO has its share of bugs and temporarily banned cards each set release. The only reason it doesn't break as catastrophically is because they've had those 10 years, especially the first 4 where it was in beta, to fix issues with the core engine, but they also don't significantly change anything to avoid breaking that core engine as well.

@flagrama, appreciate you sharing your experience and more information about the meaning of beta
and glad you aren't having problems with your set up and reassuring to know, hopefully it will be fixed for us all soon.
I suppose I am a little naïve having only started playing the last year or so, relatively unaware of any previous problems online. I have experienced a few like the broken cards which are quickly banned until fixed. but in terms of major game bugs coming up game after game making it not worth while playing for the time being, I've not experienced that until now.

I feel like a lot of solid improvements have been made with PTCGL so kudos to the dev team on this. Also communication has been decent with messages on log on screen notifying of fixes and continued bugs. I really like some of the graphics displayed when you put a pokemon in play (ie, water, grass, lightning and fire pokemon...) would love to see some updates on colorless pokemon, metal and dark.
Also, PLEASE update the holo graphics and radiant graphics on the cards....they look really bad as is and could be so so much better.
And tournament play and true ranked ladder would make a lot of people very happy! :-)
Thanks for the hard work!
