I agree, Treeko is very underrated, except, in my humble opinion, Chicorita is known to be underrated and weak, and now I think it's well known for it's unpopularity.

I've seen a lot of Oshawott fans though, it seems to be pretty popular.

Chikorita is the face of unpopular starters. Its not even usable in its own game because it's weak to the first two gyms, after which is Whitney who just beats every starter.
It's also weak to half the gyms in the region and is super effective against none of them, and its design isn't one that would be considered cool (which was what saved Charmander). It doesn't get any love from Game Freak or tpc either and is cursed to forever be unpopular.
