Bug Report: Rare Candy & New Fossils
I've noticed in playtesting some of the new 151 set on Pokemon TCG Live that you cannot use Rare Candy to evolve an Antique Dome Fossil into the Stage 2 Kabutops on the turn after you played the fossil. The same thing happens when you try to use Rare Candy on Antique Helix Fossil to evolve straight into Omastar. No matter how many turns you wait, you can't use Rare Candy cards with the new fossils.

Because the fossils aren't basic Pokémon. Rare candy reads:
Choose one of your basic Pokémon.
The fossils are item cards, which simply read:
Play this card as if it were a 60-hp basic Pokémon.
Play it. Once it's in play, it's not a Pokémon. Hope this helps.

This came up in another thread and according to official rulings once they're on the board they are basic pokemon. I think it's likely an oversight since rare candy + fossil isn't the most efficient strategy for a lot of decks that use them.

None of this is correct. It's a Basic Pokémon while in play, full-stop. It's a bug. Please look up rulings before saying stuff like this. This is also a really stupid way of understanding it because your logic would mean that it gets discarded after playing it.

Okay, thanks. I thought that these were the rules, because a professional Pokémon player said that somewhere, that rare candy didn't work on them. Sorry. Thanks for explaining. I just didn't look up the rules because I never use rare candy on fossils, it's not very good.

I’ve had the same issue! It’s infuriating because using Rare Candy is infinitely better than using Kabuto. They really need to patch this

This issue appears to have been fixed in a recent update, thank goodness.
