The game is pretty boring overall, but it's a little better with the exp share turned off. Set battle style is more interesting than shift, too. Shift is essentially cheating.

When you knock out a trainer's Pokémon and they have more, the game tells you what they're going to send out next and gives you the option to switch out your Pokémon. That's the shift battle style. Set battle style doesn't tell you what the opponenent is sending out next and doesn't give you the option to switch out in between KOs. You can swap between them in the settings. The feature was removed in Scarlet/Violet on the Switch and now everyone's forced to use shift style, but all the games before that let you pick.

FINALLY, I CAN GIVE AN UPDATE !!!!
So these days I've been kinda blocked cuz I couldn't find my way to a mysterious balcony
And then couldn't find my way to the gym
BUT
I DEFEATED ALL THE Team FLARE GUYS I MET
AND I GOT MY SECOND BADGE TODAY !!!!
