Character Spotlight: Corbeau
Spotlight doesn't mean praise the character or admire them or anything like that
I am yanking away the scarlet curtains to reveal the character on the shiny black stage for the world's eyes to see and scrutinize

He's a solid character.
Don't love him, don't hate him.
The human ladder scene before the ZA final boss is funny tho.

Let's just get the fact he's hot out of the way

That's the only thing they got right
Everything else about his character makes no sense to me
He's depicted as evil and cruel...
Then he's helping the community
He tries to act mean...
Yes he's done nothing rude (excluding him calling out Urbain like that lol)
They try to make him cool...
But he hasn't actually done anything impressive
And something UZ pointed out for the DLC is it makes ZERO SENSE of why he's the one with the tech knowledge
That's never even been SUGGESTED that he's the one with the tech power
Like EVERYTHING ABOUT HIM MAKES ZERO SENSE
It all contradicts
He was horribly put together and there was so much that should have been done better

Okay, I think he's not as bad as a lot of people say he is.
He's not meant to be necessarily bad. Nor good.
He's a decent person looking and the world through a pessimistic business lens. Every time somebody says he contradicts himself, consider one thing- he's just not simple. He isn't trying to be the bad guy. He just doesn't mind being that person in someone else's sight.
He's depicted as evil and cruel at first maybe because that's what you know of him. Imagine… you only know what a person does. They seem like they're doing something bad to you. So to you, they're bad.
But that's not how people work. If first impressions were absolute, everyone I know would be a totally different person. That's just your first impression of Corbeau. Who is he really? Head of a group that means to try to improve the city through gathering the money needed to fix things up. They lend out money to people not with particular malicious intent, but on the assumption that they know the consequences of failing to pay back.
He is not mean, nor rude. I suppose he isn't exactly a moral perfection and through the eyes of a bunch of teenagers who know owe the guy a couple thousand, he's a greedy jerk.
But he's just pessimistic and does not care to do things according to what will let him reach his goal.
I swear, people ask for more complex people in Pokémon. Then they never take the time to dig a little into things, which is where actually complicated characters are found! And he isn't even that complicated! He's just not inherently good or bad, and he's pessimistic. Everyone decided this was a contradiction for some reason.1 -
I have one main issue:
When we saved Jett from all those angry citizens he stepped in and said he would help to make the fight unfair
So he's actively trying to be cruel
Yet he fails miserably
I don't think he's complex
He just feels awkward and overly contradicting
I'm not saying you're wrong
I promise

I think that line was a joke or something?… I don't remember it.
Let me just say- why would he TRY to be cruel? Does trying to be cruel get him money or help? Not really. He's pessimistic. Why is this read as cruel or trying to be? To be fair, we never see pessimistic characters in Pokemon, honestly. I can think of… basically Lysandre and maybe Guzma and that it. But seriously, I've seen people who act worse than that in their pessimism and cynicism and I would never call them cruel, or trying to be cruel. They just have a different lens.
Give me a scene where he genuinely tried to be cruel. I can't think of any. I can think of times he might be a little cold. But the only times that I could see being called 'cruel' boil down to perspective.0
