Theory on Geeta's Team

So, as many of us are aware, Geeta is notorious for having a really bad team compared to other champions, with her biggest mistake being her Glimmora serving as an ace rather than a setup (also imo her ace being weak to TWO of the starter Pokemon is also a quality that no Champion ace should have).

My personal theory on this is that her team is a court order- she's so incapable of holding back that the Elite Four basically made her use a weaker team so that she doesn't absolutely dominate everything.

What do you guys think? And what team would you have given her? Personally, I'd keep Espathra, Glimmora, and Kingambit but maybe replace her other mons with Clawitzer, Toedscruel, and Hawlucha.

From a meta perspective, I wouldn't be surprised if her team was legitimately an oversight. Being at the end of the game, it would be one of the more difficult thing to test and if you have time constraints the ending is where corners will be cut and mistakes will be missed. Plus just as your testers might not reach the end of the game during a test of a full playthrough, so do many payers not finish the final game and never notice that there is a problem.

In universe, it could be the case that the team is deliberately limited to enable a certain quantity of trainers to achieve "champion rank", given that in the region it seems to be a qualification achieved through the school/league rather than a specific position or title held by one individual.

That is probably why she also doesn't have Kingambit as her ace. Clawitzer and Hawlucha is definetly better than Gogoat and Avalugg. Maybe Clawitzer could be replaced with Wugtrio

@TheJeffers I always thought it strange that Geeta's supposed to be the best of the Champions when EVERY OTHER CHAMPION is supposed to beat her in order to gain the title. Like, didn't they mention in-game that Nemona actually HELD BACK during their fight and still won?

@GeneralScout I thought Gholdengo could work as her ace instead of Kingambit- it would be strong but not overpowered.

Having her team be intentionally bad to account for her inability to hold back is definitely an interesting theory, but what about the Academy Ace Tournament? She uses the exact same team there and the E4/League wouldn't be making her hold back there (although Clavell could be making her hold back).

@D-ManBlue I just thought Kingambit would be the ace because champions usually bring their ace out last, and Kingambit usually is brought out last due to the Supreme Overlord.

I'm not too bothered by Geeta's underwhelming team, so I'm not inclined to do mental gymnastics to find some justification. But I will say if she was meant to be a joke they could have given her something like Earthquake Chansey. Then it'd be as funny as Penny's team.

I feel that the reason why her team is sort of weak because the Pokemon company might've planned for the main player character to speed run all the way from the gym leader to the champion, which might lead to the weaker team, or that it might be because a lot of people complained about Cynthia and the others being too hard, so the company decides to scale back the difficulty by a lot to try to stop people from complaining which leads to news article being written.

@GeneralScout And I agree with you- I just thought you were saying that her bringing out Kingambit last and that being her ace would be TOO powerful. I must have been misreading your comment.

@Elberta So I think it's worth mentioning that Geeta isn't the final boss of the game like in previous gens. She's also not even the final boss of Victory Road- you have to fight Nemona and beat her before you officially complete that part of the story.
