Why is my battle box deck invalid straight from redeeming it?

I have recently purchased the battle box game irl and just redeemed he two qr codes for TCG live but the Pikachu, charizard and mewtwo decks are invalid. Is this a bug? All the Pokémon and support cards have the invalid symbol. Please clarify or fix this issue.

    Hello Trainer,

I recommend you open a ticket with the support team for this instance. To do so, please visit https://support.pokemon.com/ and then click the Pokémon Trading Card Game Live link. From there click "Contact Us".

Interesting. So does that mean irl these cards aren’t “legal” for battles? And then obviously there are more questions that this brings up like why the difference and why were they made like that or were the rules changed and what is it about them that is not legal…?? 😂

The Pokémon TCG Standard Format has something called a rotation in which older cards are removed from the format. This happens more or less annually. So it's just that you picked up a product with old cards.

Currently, a card is legal for Standard play if there's a version of that card with an E, F or G regulation mark in the lower left corner.

The cards rotated out of the standard format, and, if I recall correctly, the battle academy decks aren’t tournament legal

Ugh, this is pretty crazy as I didn't think I had a very old deck. I just purchased it for like $30 retail and I'm unable to use it because a bunch of the trainer cards are marked as invalid. This is pretty crazy, and disappointing.

OK, so I guess it was a 2022 release deck. Specifically the Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX League Battle Deck. I guess I should have first looked into this more. We just purchased a Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR League Battle Deck for my son's birthday that looks to be just from last year so hopefully all of that deck will still be legal for him. He's only going to be 12, but he also has a pretty powerful water deck he built himself but I'm guessing his deck probably isn't tournament legal either.

The Origin Forme Dialga VSTAR League Battle Deck doesn’t lose any important Pokémon since they’re all found in the F regulation block but it does lose some pretty important Trainer cards come April 5th.

    • Battle VIP Pass (the deck has 4)
    • Echoing Horn (the deck has 1)
    • Klara (the deck has 1)
    • Melony (the deck has 3)

The loss of Echoing Horn isn’t too bad but the loss of Battle VIP Pass, Melony, and Klara to some extent really hurt the deck.

Whelp, of course now I find out today that most of my deck is no trash as they just dropped all series E cards. What a bunch of garbage.
